  • A GIS-Based Artificial Neural Network Model for Spatial Distribution of Tuberculosis across the Continental United States

Open Access•Abolfazl Mollalo, Liang Mao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Despite the usefulness of artificial neural networks (ANNs) in the study of various complex problems, ANNs have not been applied for modeling the geographic distribution of tuberculosis (TB) in the US. Likewise, ecological level researches on TB incidence rate at the national level are inadequate for epidemiologic inferences. We collected 278 exploratory variables including environmental and a broad range of socio-economic features for modeling t…

  • Environmental risk factors for Lyme disease identified with geographic information systems

Gregory E Glass, Brian S Schwartz et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1995•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 16

OBJECTIVES. A geographic information system was used to identify and locate residential environmental risk factors for Lyme disease. METHODS. Data were obtained for 53 environmental variables at the residences of Lyme disease case patients in Baltimore County from 1989 through 1990 and compared with data for randomly selected addresses. A risk model was generated combining the geographic information system with logistic regression analysis. The m…

  • Risk factors associated with antibodies to leptospires in inner-city residents of Baltimore

James E Childs, Brian S Schwartz et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1992•Referencias: 14

Leptospiral antibody prevalence was 16% in residents of Baltimore. Seropositivity was associated with age, gender, race, and bird ownership, reduced the antibody risk associated with age and race from odds ratios (95% confidence interval) of 3.3 (2.0, 5.5) and 3.3 (1.1, 9.3), respectively, to the baseline level. These data establish the high prevalence of leptospiral antibody in Baltimore and suggest a protective role for cats in reducing the ris…

  • Seroprevalence of HIV antibody among individuals entering the Iowa Prison System

Gregory E Glass, William J Hausler et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1988•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 3

From January 1 to April 30, 1986, all individuals entering the Iowa prison system were tested for antibody to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Sera were collected on 363 newly incarcerated inmates, 389 inmates returning to prison, and 107 forensic psychiatric patients. Three of the 859 serum samples (0.3 per cent) tested during this study were reactive by ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) testing, but none reactive by the Western b…
