THE appearance of a previously unknown 1500 Toledo edition of the Comedia de Calisto y Melibea, printed by Pedro Hagenbach, and described in detail recently by Miss Clara L. Penney,1 leads to a reappraisal of certain problems connected with this work. One recalls that the earliest known edition is the anonymous Comedia of sixteen autos, Burgos, Fadrique de Basilea, 1499.
