  • Availability and affordability of medicines and cardiovascular outcomes in 21 high-income, middle-income and low-income countries

Open Access•Clara K Chow, Tu Ngoc Nguyen et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2020

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to examine the relationship between access to medicine for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) among people at high risk of CVD in high-income countries (HICs), upper and lower middle-income countries (UMICs, LMICs) and low-income countries (LICs) participating in the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology (PURE) study. METHODS: We defined high CVD risk as the presence of any of the foll…

  • Ten years risk assessment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease using Astro-CHARM and pooled cohort equation in a south Asian sub-population

Open Access•Tariq Ashraf, Muhammad Naeem Mengal et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

Despite the fact that our findings showed substantial differences in ten-year risk of ASCVD between Astro-CHARM and PCE, both calculators can be used to develop a new population and specific risk estimators for this South Asian sub-population. Our study provides the first step towards developing a risk assessment guided decision-making protocol for primary prevention of ASCVD in this population

  • Underestimation of weight and its associated factors among overweight and obese adults in Pakistan

Open Access•Seema Bhanji, Ali Khan Khuwaja et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

In this cross sectional survey, we observed marked discordance between the actual and perceived weight. Underestimation of individual weight was more common in older participants (≥ 40 years), men, participants happy with their weight and participants not aware of their ideal weight. Accurate perception of one's actual weight is critical for individuals to be receptive to public health messages about weight maintenance or weight loss goals. There…

  • Effectiveness of research training workshop taught by traditional and video-teleconference methods in a developing country

Open Access•Sunita Dodani, Khawar Kazmi et al.•ARTICLE•Global Public Health•2009

The developing countries are currently facing a double burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Physician-scientists, trained in patient care and research skills are crucial in performing cutting-edge clinical research in the developing countries. A major unmet challenge has been the lack of local expertise and the increasing problem of 'brain drain'. The current study was an effort to present and assess a model of research training …
