Tomboyism
The meager research available on tomboyism is based on the assumption that it is rare and abnormal. Following an initial observation that 78% of a group of undergraduate women reported having been tomboys in childhood, the frequency of tomboyism was assessed in two samples, one of junior-high girls, the other of adult women. Are Pronounceability and Effort Ratings Psychologically Equivalent
Is Underwood and Schulz's (1960) pronounceability scale psychologically equivalent to Ryan and Smith's (1954) effort scale for work? CVCs with high or low m ′ values (Noble, 1961) were rated on both scales. Judgments of equivalence were inconsistent over S s and CVCs. The scales are not parallel by Gulliksen's (1950) criteria. They correlate .99 and over-all have nearly equal means, variances, and covariances. Differential effects of work on rate…

95 CVCs were rated for pronounceability ( p ') on a modification of Underwood and Schulz's 9-point scale. The correlation between testretest mean p ' ratings of the CVCs was .99. Correlation between mean p ' ratings of CVCs by two different groups of raters was .96. Mean p ' ratings of the two groups correlated .88 and .95 with Noble's m ' ratings of CVCs.
