Healing in Premodern Java and Bali: Between Local and Translocal
This article presents and discusses key evidence on medicine, healing and herbal remedies in premodern Indonesia. It focuses on literature in Sanskrit and Old Javanese from the 8th to the 15th century, as well as epigraphic documents from the same period. While many of the concepts encountered testifies to the transregional "Indospheric" and Sanskritic culture that characterises Southeast Asia in this period, one detects strong elements of locali…
Paul’s Divine Humiliation in 2Cor 12,21
In 2Cor 12,21, Paul expresses his fear that God may humiliate him during his third visit to Corinth. The exact meaning of this concern is not entirely clear. To understand it better, it is essential to explore the connection between the divine humiliation of his ministry and his subsequent mourning for the unrepentant Corinthians. Septuagint traditions regarding divine humiliation of believers and community leaders for unforeseen purposes, along …
Where and How AI Shapes our Thinking is the Key Point
This paper examines how the progressive integration of AI into epistemic practices is reshaping human knowledge production and our broader interface with reality. Building on Bianchini (2025a) and engaging with Branda (2026), it argues that AI can no longer be regarded as an epistemically neutral tool, but actively influences human cognition in supportive, indifferent, or detrimental ways. The widespread adoption of Large Language Models across d…
Generative Artificial Intelligence: A Concept in Progress
Each technology advances at its own pace, often indifferent to theoretical and philosophical-scientific conceptualizations. In the case of technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), and especially generative AI (GenAI), developments are so rapid that conceptual and epistemological reflections struggle to keep up, even at the level of basic definitions. Yet these definitions carry significant non-theoretical implications, including social, le…
Invoking the Goddess along the Southern Silk Roads: A transregional survey of Prajñāpāramitā protective texts
This article brings together various textual materials relating to the worship of Prajñāpāramitā in mediaeval Monsoon Asia. In particular, it covers sources from South Asia, mainland Southeast Asia (Angkor), maritime Southeast Asia (Java and Bali), and Southern China (Yunnan). The aims of this critical survey are twofold. On the one hand, the article argues for the importance of ritual language within wider discussions on cultural and linguistic …
Talking about Oneself to Talk about Christ: The Autobiographical Text of Philippians 3:1-4.1 in Light of Ancient Rhetorical Heritage
In this contribution, we will proceed in three steps. First of all, we will investigate the rhetorical approach for studying the Pauline letters, considering different methodological options. In this context, we will propose the approach of the literary rhetoric as the most valid. Secondly, we will analyse the autobiographical text of Philippians 3:1-4:1, starting from its delimitation, textual criticism, and its arrangement, according to oral an…
Bathing Practices as a Religious and Medical Encounter: Water, Climate and Health Across Monsoon Asia
This study explores the intersection between religious and medical bathing practices across Monsoon Asia, with particularly reference to āyurvedic and Buddhist traditions. While previous scholarship has emphasised the ritualistic and social dimensions of bathing in Brahmanical and Buddhist contexts, this article complements it with discussions of its medicinal and healing functions, as outlined in classical texts and displayed in material culture…
Τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τὸ εὐαγγελισθὲν ὑπ’ ἐμοῦ (Gal 1: (11)
In this contribution the author will proceed in three steps. First, he will raise questions about the various rhetorical approaches one might follow in order to study the argumentative development of Galatians, considering the different methodological options. Second, he will offer a survey of existing rhetorical research on Galatians. Then he will seek to outline the argumentative structure and development of Galatians, in order to understand wh…
Experimental and Integrative Approaches to Robo-ethics. An Introduction
Baptism According to Paul: The Example of 1 Corinthians
What is the importance of baptism according to Paul? The Pauline references to baptism are limited in number and distribution. 1 Corinthians is the Pauline epistle with the highest number of references to it. Therefore, we chose to concentrate our inquiry on this letter. In the article, individual baptismal terms are analyzed according to their literary context, and to the function they have in the place of their occurrence. As a result, baptism …
