Acquisition of Living Skills by Chronic Patients as a Function of Type of Reinforcement
Current skills-training programs designed to enhance appropriate social behavior of schizophrenics almost exclusively employ positive social reinforcement. However, previous research has demonstrated that schizophrenics are more influenced by mildly aversive consequences than by positive social reinforcement. The present study examined the impact of praise and censure contingencies in a simulated job interview. It was found that observing a model…
E 's Presence
This study was designed to see if the presence of E was sufficient to produce “demand characteristics” in a psychological experiment. Two physiological indices, electromyogram and heart rate, measured performance of a task, i.e., not to respond to a tone. E's presence facilitated S's ability not to respond as indicated by EMG. E's presence had a facilitating effect and “demand characteristics” of psychological experimentation appear to exist
Factor Analysis of MMPI and SVIB Scores for a Psychiatric Population
The MMPIs and SVIBs of 107 psychiatric patients were factor analyzed to investigate the possibility of factors common to the two tests. Six factors were derived, two made up of MMPI scales and four of SVIB scales. Correlations between rotated factors and correlations between factor scores indicated some significant relationships between personality and interests in a psychiatric population. For example, in a psychiatric population there is a tend…
