  • Temporal relations between alcohol use, posttraumatic stress disorder, and internalizing symptoms during the Covid-19 pandemic

    Open Access•Shannon E Cusack, Sage E Hawn et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2024

Results suggest a bidirectional, cyclical relationship between alcohol consumption and internalizing psychopathology broadly, rather than PTSD specifically, during the pandemic. Interventions for alcohol consumption on college campuses may benefit from targeting internalizing symptoms, such as through facilitating the development of adaptive coping strategies. • Longitudinal Examination of the Impact of Resilience and Stressful Life Events on Alcohol Use Disorder Outcomes

    Christina M Sheerin, Kaitlin E Bountre et al.•ARTICLE•Substance Use & Misuse•2021

Background: Stressful life events (SLEs) are a risk factor for alcohol use problems, and there is a need for identification of factors that may offset this risk. Resilience is uniquely, inversely associated with alcohol use, but there remains a dearth of research examining the buffering effect of resilience toward alcohol use problems in the context of SLEs. Objectives: This study used prospective data from an epidemiological twin sample (N = 744…

  • The longitudinal buffering effects of resilience on alcohol use outcomes

    Open Access•Shannon E Cusack, Kaitlin E Bountre et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2021

Findings suggest resilience as an important protective factor in relation to the development of AUD symptoms after exposure to a TE, though perhaps less so in relation to consumption. Findings are consistent with prior work demonstrating that AUD symptoms are more clinically relevant than consumption in this population. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Yoga for warriors

    Open Access•Suzzette M Chopin, Christina M Sheerin et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2020

Yoga is a feasible and effective intervention for veterans with comorbid chronic pain and PTSD. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Does Parenting Influence the Enduring Impact of Severe Childhood Sexual Abuse on Psychiatric Resilience in Adulthood

    Open Access•Mackenzie J Lind, Ruth C Brown et al.•ARTICLE•Child Psychiatry & Human…•2017

  • Correlates of VA mental health treatment utilization among OEF/OIF/OND veterans

Jason C DeViva, Christina M Sheerin et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2015

Veterans of Operations Iraqi Freedom/Enduring Freedom/New Dawn (OEF/OIF/OND) tend not to engage in mental health care. Identifying modifiable factors related to mental health service utilization could facilitate development of interventions to increase utilization. The current study examined the relationship between mental health care utilization and measures of PTSD symptoms, resilience, stigma, beliefs about mental health care, perceived barrie…
