    Open Access•L Ruggerone, Charlie Hackett•ARTICLE•Visual Studies•2024•References: 8

In the visual essay, we present the images produced by participants during a study on the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic and Brexit on the emotions and feelings of middle-aged European citizens. The study was conducted using an art-based method where participants were asked to produce some form of artwork(a drawing, a collage, a photograph, a video or even apiece of music) and were then interviewed by the researchers. • The Deceptive Mirror

    L Ruggerone, Renate Stauss•ARTICLE•Fashion Theory•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 13

This paper explores the role of the mirror in the act of getting dressed. It argues that in daily practices of dress/ing the predominance of the sense of sight in defining the experience of both dress and our self is materialized and enhanced by the omnipresence of an object: the mirror. Despite being mostly ignored in analyses of dressed body, the mirror performs a crucial role in defining both dress and the self in visual terms. By considering …

  • The Feeling of Being Dressed

    L Ruggerone•ARTICLE•Fashion Theory•2016•Cited by: 18•References: 18

In sociological and cultural studies the relationship we have with our clothes has been mostly analyzed in terms of fashion and identity, with a focus on the ways in which we use clothing to represent ourselves to and in the world. The article argues that in all these analyses one important aspect is still missing: the feelings we experience about and in our clothes when we are dressed. It proposes a change of paradigm to find ways to incorporate…

    Open Access•L Ruggerone, Neil Jenkings•ARTICLE•Symbolic Interaction•2015•References: 21

This paper reports on research undertaken into the aesthetics of the everyday. As well as the subject matter of aesthetic philosophy, art criticism and of the sociology of art, beauty, and beautiful are of course very ordinary matters too. To shed light on the meanings of beauty as used in everyday settings and in natural language, we use the data collected in a study conducted with a group of low-income residents of the city of Milan. In this st…

  • The Reflexive Order of Language and Activities

    Open Access•L Ruggerone•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1996•Cited by: 3•References: 4

The reflections presented in this paper were inspired by a simple consideration: that, although the kind of sociological investigation indicated as ethnomethodology originated as a reaction to the institutional sociological establishment, it has eventually become part of it (see Pollner, 1991). Some might quite rightly object that this is hardly surprising; actually, it is the destiny of most revolutionary movements inside and outside the sociolo…
