  • The Covid-19 response must be disability inclusive

Open Access•Richard Armitage, Richard C Armitage et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet Public Health•2020

There are more than 1 billion people living with disabilities (PLWD) worldwide. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is likely to disproportionately affect these individuals, putting them at risk of increased morbidity and mortality, underscoring the urgent need to improve provision of health care for this group and maintain the global health commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).1Kuper H Heydt P The mission billion:…

  • Covid-19 and the consequences of isolating the elderly

Open Access•Richard Armitage, Richard C Armitage et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet Public Health•2020

As countries are affected by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the elderly population will soon be told to self-isolate for “a very long time” in the UK, and elsewhere.1 This attempt to shield the over-70s, and thereby protect over-burdened health systems, comes as worldwide countries enforce lockdowns, curfews, and social isolation to mitigate the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

  • Urban Agriculture in shared spaces: The difficulties with collaboration in an age of austerity

    Open Access•Rebecca St Clair, Moriah Hardman et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2020•Cited by: 6•References: 38

The expanding critical literature on Urban Agriculture (UA) makes links between the withdrawal of state services and the institutionalisation of volunteering, while observing that challenging funding landscapes can foster competitive environments between third-sector organisations. Where these organisations are forced to compete for survival at the expense of collaboration, their ability to collectively upscale and expand beneficial activities ca…

  • Estimates of‘relative pollen productivity’ and‘relevant source area of pollen’ for major tree taxa in two Norfolk (UK) woodlands

    Open Access•M Jane Bunting, Richard Armitage et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2005•Cited by: 11•References: 2

Surface sample pollen assemblages and vegetation data collected from two East Anglian fen carr sites with adjacent dry woodland belts are analysed to estimate the relevant source area of pollen (RSAP) and the relative pollen productivity (RPP) values for the major canopy trees. The‘relevant source area of pollen’ is found to be on the order of 50-150 m, comparable with but slightly greater than estimates for forest hollow contexts in dry woodland…
