  • Acquiring Financial Support for Children’s Sports Participation

Open Access•Lonneke van Leeuwen, Angelique Ruiter et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2023

Despite the many benefits of club-organized sports participation for children, sports participation is lower among children from low-income families than among those from middle- or high-income families. Social safety experienced by parents from low-income families is an important facilitator for parents to request financial support for their children's sports participation. Therefore, the first aim of this study was to better understand parental…

  • New World Objects of Knowledge

    Matthijs Jonker•ARTICLE•Hispanic American Historical Review•2023

The globalization of the historiography of knowledge in the past decades has constituted a necessary correction to the Eurocentric perspective that dominated the discipline since its beginning in the early twentieth century. One important part of this movement has been the vindication of the Americas or the “New World,” as it was known in the early modern period, as a principal site of knowledge production and circulation. The first president of the Accademia di San Luca, Federico Zuccari, developed an elaborate theory of art that centered on the concept of disegno. More …

Open Access•Sigtona Halrynjo, Matthijs Jonker et al.•ARTICLE•Gender Work and Organization•2015•Cited by: 9•References: 8

This article examines how intersectionality is recognized in hijab discrimination cases brought before the Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and Dutch equality bodies. Hijab cases are regarded as a perfect example of intersectionality, as religion and gender are interwoven in the use of the Muslim veil. The theoretical shift towards intersectionality has influenced substantial revisions of equality policies, bodies and laws. Recognizing intersectionalit…

  • Multidimensional Discrimination in Judicial Practice

Open Access•Matthijs Jonker, Merel Jonker et al.•ARTICLE•Netherlands Quarterly of Human…•2014•Cited by: 1

The concept of multidimensional discrimination is claimed to pose considerable challenges for judicial practice. The methods for tackling discrimination on more than one ground have been extensively discussed in the literature but not yet comprehensively analysed empirically. The present study compares and analyses the case law of the Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish equality bodies concerning gender-plus discrimination in the labour market. …
