The glaciers of Mount Kenya are the object of a long-term observation program motivated by pro blems of climate-cryosphere interaction and climatic change (Hastenrath 1984), and are in support of international efforts at monitoring glacier fluctua tions (Permanent Service on the Fluctuations of Glaciers, IUGG-FAGS/ICSU 1977, 1985).
