The Relationship between Direct and Indirect Measures of Death Anxiety
Using a multimethod, multilevel approach to assess death anxiety, this study investigated the relationship between direct measures, the relationship between indirect measures, the relationship between direct and indirect measures and the relationship between direct measures and the variables of age, social desirability and repression–sensitization (R-S) for males and females. Direct measures were significantly and meaningfully related to one anot…
Development of a Behavior Rating Scale for Doctor-Patient Interactions and its Implications for the Study of Death Anxiety
This study reports on the development of a behavior rating scale for doctor-patient interactions. Results revealed that raters can reliably and accurately discriminate between medical and personal aspects of both speech and touch using written transcripts and audiovisual tapes of doctor-patient interactions. Use of the scale for research and medical training evaluation was discussed
Contribution of the Education Phase to Stress-Inoculation Training
This study compared the relative effectiveness of full Stress-inoculation Training, including the education phase, with a procedure which included only the rehearsal and application phases of Stress Inoculation, in treating 18 speech-anxious college students (11 females, 7 males; M = 22 yr.). A repeated-measures analysis of variance and multiple comparisons of two self-report indices of anxiety, a measure of ‘state’ anxiety, behavioral observatio…
Interpersonal Trust as a Predictor of Suggestibility
The present study investigated the prediction that interpersonal trust would be related to suggestibility. Rotter's Interpersonal Trust Scale was used as a paper-and-pencil measure of trust, and the Barber Suggestibility Scale was the measure of suggestibility. The hypothesis was confirmed in that interpersonal trust was significantly correlated (.19) with scores of 82 college women on Barber's Suggestibility Scale, although the effect was small
Interpersonal Trust and Severity of Delinquent Behavior
Rotter's Interpersonal Trust Scale and Roberts' subscales of Political and Peer Trust were administered to 20 normals, 20 delinquents with misdemeanor offenses and 20 delinquents with felony offenses. It was expected that the delinquents would report lower interpersonal trust than the normal group and further that the felony group would report less trust than the misdemeanor group. Results showed no differences between groups for the Rotter Inter…
Socialization as Related to Delinquency Classification
The socialization scale of the California Psychological Inventory was administered to 3 groups of Ss, these being normals, level I delinquents convicted of minor offenses and level II delinquents convicted of felonies. Significant differences ( p < .001) were obtained between scores of normals and level I delinquents and between normals and level II delinquents, but not between delinquent groups. It was concluded that the socialization scale was …
