  • Local labor market effects of nuclear power plants

    Open Access•Duha T Altindag, R Taha et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Policy Analysis and…•2025•References: 3

Using a differences‐in‐differences strategy, we estimate the local economic effects of U.S. commercial nuclear power plants (NPPs). Our control group consists of locations where plant construction was planned but ultimately canceled. We find that NPP construction significantly increases local employment and wages, with effects concentrated in the construction and public utilities sectors. However, these gains dissipate once construction concludes…

  • The Effects of Household Income Volatility on Divorce

    Open Access•John M Nunley, Alan Seals•ARTICLE•American Journal of Economics and…•2010•Cited by: 5•References: 36

We extend the literature on the effects of earnings shocks on divorce by identifying separately the effects of transitory and permanent household income shocks and by allowing the shocks to have asymmetric effects across education and racial groups. The econometric evidence suggests negative (positive) transitory household income shocks increase (decrease) the probability of divorce, while there is only weak evidence that positive (negative) perm…
