Lack of Oral Care Policies in Toronto Daycares
Many daycares do not have a policy regarding oral hygiene. A policy that encourages and provides guidance on safe tooth-brushing procedures is needed and may improve the oral health of preschool children
Is Regular Visiting Associated with Lower Costs? Analyzing Service Utilization Patterns in the First Nations Population in Canada
The observations of the authors in this client group do not support the thesis that regular visiting is associated with lower expenditures on dental care
Developing Management Information from an Administrative Database of Dental Services
Program expenditures were influenced by different factors over the study period. In the final two years, increasing expenditures were driven by price increases and increasing numbers of clients, but not by increasing numbers of services per client, nor a 'richer' mix of services
A System of Diagnostic Codes for Dental Health Care
We have developed a coding system for dental diagnoses that has achieved high use and provided more accessible information on the conditions seen by staff dentists

Periodontal Attachment Loss in Independently Living Older Adults in Ontario, Canada
This paper describes the periodontal disease experience of a community-dwelling population aged 50 years and older, living in four communities in Ontario, Canada. The periodontal status of this population was assessed using attachment loss and the extent and severity index. Attachment loss was measured at two sites on each tooth using a pressure-sensitive periodontal probe. Complete periodontal data were obtained on 624 subjects. The mean number …
Coronal and Root Decay Experience in Older Adults in Ontario, Canada
This paper describes the coronal and root caries experience of subjects aged 50 years and older living in four communities in Ontario, Canada. The data were obtained as part of a comprehensive epidemiologic study of the oral health and treatment needs of this population. Caries experience was defined as the number of decayed and filled coronal and root surfaces per subject. Of 907 subjects interviewed and clinically examined, 78.3 percent were de…
An Index of Chewing Ability
This study was carried out to develop and test an index of chewing ability suitable for epidemiologic surveys. Existing data on older adults living independently in East York, Ontario, were reanalyzed and the index was developed using techniques of scalogram analysis. Individuals were scored from 0 to 5 based on their self-reported ability to chew the most difficult of five foods. In this representative sample, 77 percent scored 5. The index has …
Two‐year Follow‐up of 11,000 Dental Sealants in First Permanent Molars in the Saskatchewan Health Dental Plan
The follow-up study examines the clinical success of sealing pits and fissures of permanent molars in a large auxiliary-based children's dental care program. The success of sealant use after one and two years was assessed using the following independent variables, (1) total number of sealants, (2) tooth location, (3) age of patient, and (4) initial caries status. The computerized records of 4,525 patients with 11,237 sealants were analyzed using …
