Dental Coverage and Dental Care Utilization Among Medicare Advantage Beneficiaries With and Without Diabetes United States
Objectives To examine dental visits, dental coverage, and out-of-pocket (OOP) dental expenditures among Medicare Advantage (MA) enrollees with and without diabetes. Methods We analyzed 2015–2019 Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey data for MA enrollees aged ≥65 years ( N = 12,312). Outcomes included any dental visit, any OOP expenditure, and total OOP spending among those with positive expenditures. Multivariable regression models examined associ…
The protective effect of Cald identity in the presence of low income on missing teeth of Australian adults over time
The negative RERI values indicate that the effect-measure modification operates in a negative direction, that is, there is a protective element to being CALD among low income groups with respect to mean number of missing teeth
Oral Health Inequities among Cald and Non-Cald Older Australians
Our findings suggest that social determinants, including increased access to dental insurance, could mitigate the oral health inequities observed
A Longitudinal Study of Chronic Periodontitis in Two Cohorts of Community-Dwelling Elderly Australians
Background: The study aimed to estimate and compare the incidence and progression of chronic periodontitis among two generations of older Australian adults. Methods: Data were from two population-based cohort studies of Australian older adults aged 60+ years South Australian Dental Longitudinal Studies (SADLS), SADLS I (1991-1992) and SADLS II (2013-2014). American Academy of Periodontology/the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC…
Maternal incarceration, child protection, and infant mortality
BACKGROUND: There are no population statistics collected on a routine basis on the children of prisoners in Australia. Accordingly, their potential vulnerability to adverse outcomes remains unclear. This study draws on linked administrative data to describe the exposure of children aged less than 2 years to maternal imprisonment in Western Australia, their contact with child protection services, and infant mortality rates. RESULTS: In Western Aus…
Low birth weight and maternal incarceration in pregnancy
Western Australian infants with mothers imprisoned before or during pregnancy experience elevated risk of low birth weight and exposure to maternal substance use, injury and mental distress in pregnancy
Risk factors for impaired oral health among 18- to 34-year-old Australians
Oral health impairment was highly prevalent in this population. The findings suggest that treatment of dental disease, reduction of financial barriers to dental care, and control of dental fear are needed to reduce oral health impairment among Australian young adults
A Conceptual Framework for Hispanic Oral Health Care
The need to study the health and health care determinants of US Hispanics is mandated by their rapid population growth. Nonetheless, it is challenging to study such a diverse population that incorporates many similarities and differences in values and experiences. This paper aims to highlight the factors that should be considered in Hispanic oral health research in the United States, and presents, in a theoretical framework, the relationships bet…
