  • Polygenic prediction of educational attainment within and between families from genome-wide association analyses in 3 million individuals

Open Access•Aysu Okbay, Yeda Wu et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Genetics•2022

We conduct a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of educational attainment (EA) in a sample of ~3 million individuals and identify 3,952 approximately uncorrelated genome-wide-significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). A genome-wide polygenic predictor, or polygenic index (PGI), explains 12–16% of EA variance and contributes to risk prediction for ten diseases. Direct effects (i.e., controlling for parental PGIs) explain roughly half th…

  • Punishing Abortion

    Open Access•Karen E Huber•ARTICLE•American Journal of Economics and…•2017•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 15

Debates over the legality and morality of abortion in Europe, especially France, were quite different in the early 20thcentury than they became in Europe and America after widespread legalization. Instead of focusing on the potential rights of the unborn, politically powerful pro-natalist activists and their less influential neo-Malthusian adversaries debated the need for larger populations, the role of abortion in facilitating sexual immorality,…
