  • Steady and Transition States

    Open Access•John H Hollis•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1976

Two experiments are reported in which steady and transition states were observed for two independent operants (body-rocking and ball-manipulandum). First, stable fixed-ratio response rates were successively obtained for body-rocking and ball-manipulandum responding. Second, transition states were obtained for the two operants simultaneously. The results showed that the independent operants under standardized experimental conditions showed moderat…

  • Differential Responses of Profoundly Retarded Children to Social Stimulation

    Open Access•John H Hollis•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1965

20 profoundly mentally retarded children were tested in a “free-field” situation with an adult E providing social stimulation in accordance with a pre-determined role. The social activities included signaling, petting, play, passiveness, and withdrawal. The onset of these activities was contingent upon S‘s making a simple instrumental response. The results showed that specific forms of social stimulation provided by an adult E had definite and di…

  • Lever-Pressing Responses of Wild Cotton and Wistar Rats

    Open Access•John H Hollis•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1964

Barnett ( 1 ) and Kavanau ( 2 ) indicate that the behaviors of wild and tame rats differ in many respects. This note presents lever-pressing data for 2 120-day-old male Wistar rats and 1 male and 1 female wild Cotton rat (Sigmodon hispioris texianis). The latter 2 were caught in the fields of South-central Kansas (estimated age 60 days), and kept in the lab until testing at approximately 150 days. A Stoelting Skinner Box No. 31292 delivered one d…

  • Chromatography and Behavioral Mutations

    Open Access•John H Hollis•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1962

In a recent paper Hadorn (1962) described a method for the analysis of the chemical composition of the fruit fly Drosophib melanogaster and observed that chemical composition does differ strikingly from one strain, or genotype, to another. chemical fractionation was carried out by the process of paper chromatography. Mutations are genetic events that lead to change in the organism. change may be observed in terms of morphological, physiological, …
