  • Teaching Effectiveness of Traditional Logic and the Venn Diagram

Open Access•S Thomas Elder, Leonard I Krimerman et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1969

Teaching effectiveness is evaluated for a linear programed introduction to traditional logic, requiring constructed and multiple-choice responding, prepared for high school seniors and college freshmen. Within an introductory philosophy course 29 volunteer freshmen college students ( M, 19.3 yr.) studied 19 chapters out of class and were tested on them at 2-day intervals. Test scores ranged from 86% to 99%, with a median of 93%. This sample was c…

  • Examiner Differences among Stanford-Binet Items

    Open Access•Victor J Cieutat, Grad L Flick•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1967

Two reports noted examiner (E) differences for Stanford-Binet IQ scores. Relevant data provided the hypothesis that Es elicit higher IQs from Ss of the opposite sex. 5 male and 5 female Caucasian Es each tested at least 9 4-yr.-old Negro Ss ( N = 446). A factorial design evaluated effects of sex of Ss, sex of Es, between- E differences, and several interactions. Major dependent variables were IQs and an index of number of items administered each …

  • Sex Differences in Verbal Operant Conditioning

    Open Access•Victor J Cieutat•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1964

Two studies concerned effects of sex of Ss, sex of E, positive vs negative reinforcement (i.e., attention vs inattention), and time trends, on the conditioning and extinction of participation in structured and unstructured small group discussions. Previous results indicated reinforcement is effective only when administered by an E of the same sex as Ss. Present results did not support this expectation and also were not consistent with each other.…

  • Reliability and Validity of Two Types of Objective Test Items

    Open Access•Victor J Cieutat•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1960

The 120 items in Part one provided estimates of reliability of the F and A items. Part two served as the criterion for validation of the two item classes. After answering the first part of the examination Ss were instructed to answer items in the second part as true or false and then to write the reasons for their answers. These items were ambiguous and were designed to stimulate application of general principles taught in the course. This was as…
