Male and Female Prison Inmates' Differences on MMPI Scales and Revised Beta IQ
MMPI protocols of all male and female prisoners in the North Carolina Correctional System in 1971 were compared. Female inmates had significantly higher ( p < .01) IQs than did the males. With the exception of the Ap, L, and K scales, males had statistically significant higher means on all MMPI scales. Women were only higher on the Ap and K scales. The males appeared significantly more emotionally disturbed, which suggests that emotionally distur…
Further Evidence of Test-Retest Reliability of Group Personality Projective Test
On the Group Personality Projective Test (Cassel & Kahn, 1961) for each of 90 drawings of stick figures S chooses one among five options. The test is designed to assess amount of anxiety-producing tension and the levels of certain psychological needs present for Ss at the time of testing (Cassel & Kahn, 1961 ) . Although Cassel and Kahn ( 1961 ) do not give the duration of periods between the two administrations for their reliability smdies, thei…
Attitudes about Sex Roles, Sex, and Marital Status of Anti-Nixon Demonstrators, Comparison of Three Studies
Comparison of findings across three small studies of 10%, 6%, and 22% of an estimated attendance at demonstrations showed a sex difference of greater liberalism of the women's attitudes toward their own roles
Black College Students' Responses to Black and White Pictures on the Quick Test
Challenge Foundation1 The Quick Test (QT) Forms 1 and 4 were administered to 95 black students at a southeastern college. The purpose of the study was to determine if the race of people illustrated on an intelligence test would have any effect on the scores. Two sets of the QT Form 1 pictures were used. The first set was the standard one with line drawings showing black and illustrations of people as Caucasian, while the second set of pictures wa…
Attitudes about Sex Roles, Sex, and Marital Status of Anti-War Demonstrators: Further Study
Joesting and Joesting ( 1 ) studied 154 anti-war demonstrators at the May 16, 1970. Armed Forces Day Demonstration in Fayerteville, North Carolina. On April 21, 1972, an estimated 1,000 students marched from North Carolina State University to the state capitol (Durham Morning Herald). This study is a replication, in which was administered a similar sex role and political affiliation questionnaire (Democrat, Republican, Independent, anarchist/radi…
Equalitarianism and Scholastic Aptitude Test Scores for College Women
Lucito ( 1959) and Smith ( 1962) found that intellectually gifted adolescents are more independent in their interpersonal relations than their less gi€ted peers. The Scholastic Aptirude Test (SAT) is well-known for predicting academic success in college. A specific cut-off score is often used by colleges in selecting students. The present srudy examined whether more intelligent female students were more independent in their conception of the chan…
Equalitarianism and Creativity: A Tentative Relationship
Low to moderate positive correlations were reported for college women on tests of creativity, anti-sexism and equalitarianism
Consistencies in Views of Deviants by College Students
Comparison of Frpvt, Sat, Equalitarianism, and Creativity in College Students
Scores on Forms A and B of the Full-Range Picture Vocabulary Test (FRPVT; Ammons & Ammons, 1948) were correlated with scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) , Equalirarianism Forms A and B from Psychology Today (Tavris, 1971), and the Preconscious Activity Scale2 for 98 undergraduate students at a southern state university. SAT scores were available from the Registrar for 50 Ss who took the test in the 12th grade and for 51 Ss in the 11th g…
Correlations of Scores on Full-Range Picture Vocabulary Test, Three Measures of Creativity, Sat Scores, and Age
For 98 college students responses on the Full-Range Picture Vocabulary Test correlated low to moderately with 3 measures of creativity, SAT scores and age as would he predicted
Some Correlations of What Kind of Person Are You, a Test of Creativity
Scores on Torrance's What Kind of a Person Are You were correlated with scores on Gordon Personal Inventory, the Maudsley Personality Inventory, a rating of creativity, and the order of completing a course quiz. rs generally suggested some relatedness of creativity, quickness, impulsivity, and risk-taking.
Quick Test Validation: Scores of Adults in a Welfare Setting
The Full Scale Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and Quick Test (QT) Form 1 were administered to 45 Ss; their ages ranged from 16 to 56 yr. ( M ago = 17.81 yr.). The Full Scale WAIS M IQ was 68.24 ( SD = 21.55) and the M IQ on Form 1 of the QT was 58.84 ( SD = 22.14), which became 73.84 when corrected. QT IQs and raw scores yielded substantive and significant ( p = .001) correlations with all WAIS raw and scaled scores
Children's Quick Test, Picture Interpretation, and Goodenough Draw-A-Person Scores
44 children, ranging in age from 6–5 and 13–10 yr., took the Goodenough Draw-A-Person Test, 51 the Picture Interpretation Test, and 47 the Quick Test Form 1. Significant correlations were found among the three tests
Sex Differences in Group Belongingness as Influenced by Instructor's Sex
4 open-ended questions were administered to 113 Ss taught by 2 male instructors (71 male Ss; 42 female Ss) and to 48 Ss taught by a female instructor (27 male Ss; 21 female Ss). All Ss were undergraduate students at a southern state university. Ten percent of the male Ss and 26% of the females in the male instructors' classes thought there was nothing good about being a woman. Only 5% of the female instructor's female students thought there was n…
Attitudes about Sex Roles, Sex, and Marital Status of Anti-War Demonstrators
A sex-role questionnaire was completed by 154 of about 1,500 demonstrators in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Women had more liberal views regarding sex roles. People who had demonstrated many times tended to see women mote as individuals than those who had demonstrated less
The Picture Interpretation Test and its Relationship to the Stanford-Binet
Textbooks for introductory psychology courses occasionally mention that perception and verbal learning are related (Munn, 1966; Kimble & Garmezy, 1968) . Visual perception of and comprehension of pictures are apparently learned through looking ac pictures in books, asking questions abour them, and being encouraged to make judgments about them (Torrance & Aliotti, 1968) . Joesting and Joesting (1971) previously obtained a Pearson product-moment co…
Correlation of Scores on the Picture Interpretation Test and Stanford-Binet Form L-M Iqs
The consequences of early deprivation of perception have been discussed by Bruner (1966). Torrance (1966) found that over 60% of disadvantaged black children made gross misperceptions of a picture used in the oral administration of the Ask-and-Guess Test. The skills of learning to read a picture are apparently learned through looking at pictures in books, asking questions about them, and being encouraged to make judgments about them (Torrance & A…
Comparison of Scores on Quick Test and Stanford-Binet, Form L-M
The Quick Test as a Screening Device in a Welfare Setting
The Quick Test (Form 1) was administered to 42 retarded children in a welfare setting. IQs correlated significantly with WISC raw scores (e.g., Vocabulary r = .61; Verbal r = .69; Performance r = .57; Full Scale r = .71)
Position Effects and Target Material in ESP
The first and third segments of a mail-in precognition test involving over 100,000 adolescent Ss used standard ESP targets while the second and fourth segments used words as targets. 50 male and 50 female protocols with high scores on the first segment and low scores on the second segment were used in the pilot study, there being twice as many of each sex for the replication. Both pilot and replicating studies showed significantly higher scoring …
Torrance's Creative Motivation Inventory and its Relationship to Several Personality Variables
Several authors have suggested that intuition or extrasensory perception is related to creativity (Hutchinson, 1959; Levine & Stowell, 1963; Murphy, 1963; Krippner, 1962-3; Rush, 1964), and other authors have stated that curiosity is one of the components of creativity (Taylor & Harding, 1967; White & Williams, 1965). Penney and McCann (1964) developed a test of reactive curiosity for intermediate grade children and reported a significant correla…
