Rotter's Locus of Control Scale, Christie and Geis' Mach IV Scale, and Fineman's Work Preference Questionnaire were administered to a sample of 60 retail specialty store managers. While there were no significant correlations between locus of control and managerial achievement, there were significant correlations between locus of control and Machiavellianism for the over-all sample and for men but not for women. Female executives scored significantly higher on the Mach IV scale than male executives but not on job satisfaction. A significant negative correlation was observed between Machiavellianism and job satisfaction for the entire sample. Executives with lower Machiavellian scores tend to have higher job satisfaction

  • Relationships between Work Commitments and Experience of Personal Well-Being

    Open Access•Yoash Wiener, Jan P Muczyk et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1987

It was hypothesized that work commitment is positively related to personal well-being along most of the commitment range. At the top end of the range, however, where “overcommitment” is indicated, a deterioration of well-being was expected. The sample consisted of 257 young, primarily men, retail managers. Analysis indicated a linear relationship between commitment and well-being across the whole range. The findings support the traditional positi…

  • Internal-Control Orientation and Interpersonal Interaction

    Open Access•Charles J Hollon, C Hollon et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1976

The relationship between internal-control orientation and interpersonal processes has been observed to warrant additional study (Joe, 1971 ) . Whether internal-control orientation is differentially related to behavior an individual expresses toward others and behavior he wants others to express toward him in interpersonal interactions has received only scant research attention. The purpose of the present study was to determine the extent to which…
