An Objective Measure of Induced Aggression
The paper describes a method of objectively measuring induced aggression in college students. Those in the experimental (verbally threatened) group expressed aggression by sabotaging E's “research project.” The extent of aggression was measured by the number of Ss making errors and the total numbers of errors made by the experimental group as compared to the control group. More Ss in the experimental group made errors as compared to the control g…
Role of Spatial Variables in Conditioned Conflict
Food-deprived male rats were placed in conflict by pairing shock and feeding. They were trained in a runway which varied in length for different groups. Stabilimeter scores indicated that runway length during training had persisting effects on activity levels. Subsequent deprivation produced differential stabilimeter activity in the absence of runway trials, which was taken as evidence for conditioned conflict elicited by drive stimuli
Analysis of the Oedipal Complex
When 32 female Ss chose a photo of a physique which they would desire as “lover,” Ss tended to choose a physique which either received a rank of 1 or 7 (most or least like father) on a scale of perceived likeness to “father.” It was concluded that the results support certain aspects of the construct, Oedipal complex
