Differences in Schwartz's Value Survey between High and Low Scorers on the Ecoscale
The hypothesis that High ECOSCALE and Low ECOSCALE groups would have different value profiles was tested using 319 introductory psychology students (187 women and 132 men). The participants completed the ECOSCALE and Schwartz's Value Survey for partial course credit, after which the means of the two groups were compared using univariate and multivariate analyses of variance on Schwartz's Value Survey. Analysis indicated that the groups scoring hi…
Group Analytic Therapy for Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse
We describe a slow-open analytic group for male survivors of childhood sexual abuse and emphasize the importance of having both a male and a female co-conductor The Beck Depression Inventory and the Spielberger State Anxiety Scale were used as an outcome audit before and after the group and at six months follow-up. The results supported the clinical impression of overall improvement. We record similarities and distinguishing features between this…
Spiritual Well-Being and Personality
The hypothesis that High and Low Spiritual Well-being groups have different personality profiles was tested with 319 psychology undergraduates (132 men and 187 women who completed the Revised NEO Personality Inventory and the Spiritual Well-being Scale for partial course credit. Univariate analyses of variance indicated that the High Spiritual Well-being group scored lower on Neuroticism and higher or Extraversion, Agreeableness. and Conscientiou…
Personality Profiles of Environmentally Responsible Groups
The hypothesis that groups high and low on environmental responsibility have different personality profiles was tested using responses of 319 introductory psychology students (132 men and 187 women) who completed the ECOSCALE and the Revised NEO Personality Inventory for partial course credit. Results of discriminant function analysis supported the hypothesis, indicating that groups scoring high and low on Environmental Responsibility had signifi…
Materialism and the Five-Factor Model of Personality
The hypothesis that High and Low Materialism groups have different personality profiles was tested with 280 introductory psychology students (135 men and 145 women) who completed the Belk Materialism Scale and the NEO Five-Factor Inventory for partial course credit. Results of discriminant function analysis supported the hypothesis, indicating that groups High and Low in Materialism had significantly different personality profiles and that the st…

Hardiness and Major Personality Factors
This study tested Maddi and Khoshaba's 1994 hypothesis that Hardiness is an index of mental health. A sample of 241 undergraduates (103 men and 138 women) completed the Dispositional Resilience Scale, the Revised NEO Personality Inventory, and the Psychopathology-5 Scales. Using the individual median scores on the three subscales (Commitment, Control, and Challenge) of the Dispositional Resilience Scale, the High Hardiness group was obtained by i…

Delay of Reinforcement Effects without Goal-Box Confinement
24 male albino rats were randomly assigned to one of three groups, immediate reinforcement, moderate delay, or long delay. Group Immediate ( n = 8) received food reinforcement immediately upon entering the goal box and were then placed in a waiting cage. For Group Moderate Delay ( n = 8), goal-box confinement was eliminated by placement in a waiting cage rather than confinement in the goal box. Group Long Delay ( n = 8) also had goal-box confinem…
