  • Do Children's Career Aspirations Predict Adult Occupations? An Answer from a Secondary Analysis of a Longitudinal Study

    Open Access•Ashton D Trice, Nancy McClellan•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1993

A secondary analysis of 271 students aged 6 to 17 years from the Terman (1926) longitudinal study of gifted children showed a strong concordance rate between childhood career aspirations and early adult attainment, particularly in scientific, artistic, helping, and skilled trade professions

  • Origins of Children's Career Aspirations

    Open Access•Ashton D Trice, Nancy McClellan et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1992

Analysis of responses of 576 children in kindergarten and Grades 2, 4, and 6 in both public and private schools shows direct suggestions particularly from significant others are recalled increasingly frequently as children grow older. Children, however, are less likely to select suggested occupations with age. These data do not account for high aspirations of children to parental occupations
