  • Job Involvement and Locus of Control as Moderators of Role-Perception/Individual-Outcome Relationships

    Open Access•Nick C Batlis•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1980

The present study examined the moderating influences of locus of control and job involvement on the relationships between role conflict, role ambiguity, and three individual outcomes: job satisfaction, job-related anxiety, and propensity to leave the organization. Ill supermarket department managers responded to a mailed questionnaire containing moderator, role perception, and outcome measures. Moderated multiple regression analyses failed to pro…

  • Leadership Style Emphasis and Related Personality Attributes

    Open Access•Nick C Batlis, Paul C Green•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1979

This study examined differences in personality attributes between supervisors who placed equal emphasis on the people and task dimensions of leadership and those who tended to be exclusively people- or task-oriented. Using the Leadership Opinion Questionnaire as a measure of preference for a particular leadership style and the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire to assess personality attributes, it was found that subjects evidencing a prefer…

  • Job Involvement as a Predictor of Academic Performance

    Open Access•Nick C Batlis•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1978

A job involvement measure was altered to reflect academic involvement and was employed as a predictor of academic performance. Although contrary to the findings of prior industrial research, job involvement was found to be correlated neither with age nor with course satisfaction; however, it did prove an efficacious predictor of performance as defined by course grade

  • Relationships between Locus of Control and Instrumentality Theory Predictor of Academic Performance

    Open Access•Nick C Batlis•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1978

Relationships between locus of control and components of an equation of instrumentality theory for predicting academic performance were examined. It was demonstrated that: (a) locus of control significantly correlated only with the Expectancy component, such that internals tended to perceive a stronger relationship between individual effort and academic performance; (b) locus of control moderated the relationship of instrumentality predictor and …

  • Job Involvement as a Moderator of Work Environment-Job Satisfaction Relationships

    Open Access•Nick C Batlis•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1978

Although job involvement is a construct which has received appreciable empirical investigation, many questions still exist as to its influence on the perception of environmental conditions and on environment-satisfaction relationships. The purposes of the present research were to examine relationships between job involvement and perceived environmental conditions (operationalized in the form of organizational climate measures) and to investigate …

  • Factor Structure of Adjective Check List under Different Instructional Sets

    Open Access•Arnold C Small, Nick C Batlis•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1978

The present study assessed the factor structure of the Adjective Check List under the instructional sets of “self” and “ideal” ratings for 22 disturbed and 49 normal girls. Factor structures obtained under these two conditions indicated that the constructs evaluated by this instrument were similar even when the instructional sets differed

  • Protestant Ethic Attitudes Among College Students

    Open Access•L K Waters, Nick C Batlis et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1975

The six scales of the Survey of Work Values (Wollack, Goodale, Wijting, and Smith, 1971), the Blood (1969) pro-Protestant Ethic scale, and the Protestant Ethic scale of Mirels and Garrett (1971) were intercorrelated, and each scale was correlated with Rotter's I/E scale, SAT total score, and cumulative grade point average for 170 college students. A factor analysis of the Protestant Ethic scales yielded two factors which were interpreted, on the …

  • Locus of Control and Achievement Motivation As Moderators of the Expectancy-Academic Performance Relationship

    Open Access•Nick C Batlis, L K Waters•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1973

  • Further Correlational Analyses of Five Versions of Two-Factor Theory of Job Satisfaction

    Open Access•L K Waters, Darrell E Roach et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1973

5 versions of the two-factor theory of job satisfaction were tested for a sample of male radio/TV employees. No support was found for any of the versions of the theory. Two trends in the data, greater saliency of the intrinsic job-facets and greater predictability of over-all satisfaction, seemed to account largely for the results. These trends, previously noted by Hulin and Waters (1971) and Waters and Waters (1972), are more consistent with tra…
