Dimensions of Reading Attitude of Primary Students
The Survey of Reading Attitudes-Primary Level (SRA) was administered orally to 269 first-grade, 240 second-grade, and 236 third-grade students. The responses to the 85-item survey were factored separately by grade by using a principal factor method with varimax rotation. Five factor dimensions were obtained which could be equated to dimensions reported in studies with intermediate grade students who responded to an intermediate form of the SRA. T…
Dimensions of Classroom Behavior for Kindergarten Children
The construct validity of the Devereux Elementary School Behavior Rating Scale (Spivack & Swift, 1967) was investigated for a sample of 408 children enrolled in the 15 kindergarten classes of a suburban school system. The 9 teachers completed behavioral ratings for the children in their classes during 1 wk. in May, 1974. A principal-factor solution was obtained on intercorrelations among the 47 behaviors included in the Devereux scale and the fac…
Prediction of Classroom Achievement Using Intelligence and Behavioral Variables for Inner-City Children
The relative importance of academic aptitude and behavioral variables for the prediction of achievement criteria in basic skill areas was investigated for a sample comprised of 71 inner-city third and fourth grade Ss. Analysis of the regression of five subtests of the Stanford Achievement Test on WISC IQs and scores on the Devereux indicated that both intelligence and behavioral variables constitute important components of third and fourth grade …
