  • Preventing recurrent homelessness among mentally ill men

Ezra Susser, Enrique Valencia et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1997•Cited by: 37•References: 28

OBJECTIVES: This study examined a strategy to prevent homelessness among individuals with severe mental illness by providing a bridge between institutional and community care. METHODS: Ninety-six men with severe mental illness who were entering community housing from a shelter institution were randomized to receive 9 months of a "critical time" intervention plus usual services or usual services only. The primary analysis compared the mean number …

  • Adrenergic and Dopaminergic Response to Chronic Chair Restraint in the Rhesus Monkey

Mark J Perlow, Farouk Karoum et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1979

Prolonged chair restraint and social isolation in the rhesus monkey led to a reduction in the urinary excretion of HVA (4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylacetic acid), DOPAC (3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid), VMA methoxy-4-hydroxymandelic acid), and MHPG (3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylethylglycol) over a 3 week period. This adaptation to a chronically "stressful" situation corresponds to earlier studies on the rhesus monkey indicating a gradual reduction in the…

  • The Inpatient Behavioral Rating Scale

    Open Access•Richard A Green, Llewellyn B Bigelow et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1977

The Inpatient Behavioral Rating Scale is an inventory designed to record daily nursing observations of mood and behavior of patients in a clinical setting. It has 26 items characterizing a broad range of psychopathology and is suitable for use where change in mood and behavior is relevant to clinical investigation. The format is an optical scan sheet for ease of computer entry and analysis. In over a year of use on two clinical research wards, th…

  • Abnormalities in Skin Potential Fluctuations During the Sleep of Acute Schizophrenic Patients

Richard Jed Wyatt, Melvin Stern et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1970

Spontaneous skin potential fluctuations (SPF) were recorded during the sleep of 8 acute schizophrenic patients and 6 normal volunteers. While in normals the SPFs decreased during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and were most numerous during Stages III and IV, the acute schizophrenics had the greatest number of SPFs during REM sleep and waking, and fewest during Stages III and IV sleep. It is hypothesized that this effect represents a lack of norma…

  • A Fourteen-Symptom Behavior and Mood Rating Scale for Longitudinal Patient Evaluation by Nurses

    Open Access•Richard Jed Wyatt, David J Kupfer•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1968

A 14-symptom mood and behavior rating scale was developed for use twice daily by nurses and nursing assistants on an inpatient service. Inter-rater reliability studies indicate that raters can be easily substituted for one another. Scores for specific symptoms correlate well with those for similar symptoms on several commonly used scales
