  • Light Reinforcement as a Function of Water Deprivation

    Open Access•Frances L Clayton•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1958

There are several studies (3, 4, 5 ) which attest to the efficacy of light as a reinforcing stimulus with non-deprived animals. However, Kling, et al. ( 5 ) noted that light presentation did not appear to strengthen bar pressing when the subjects, albino rats, were water deprived. Since his results were based on only four subjects, the present investigation was undertaken in order to examine this relationship with a larger number of subjects. The…

  • Secondary Reinforcement as a Function of Reinforcement Scheduling

    Open Access•Frances L Clayton•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1956

In the present study, albino rats were given discrimination training in a modified Skinner Box. During this training several schedules of S D —S R pairings were presented; differential effects of this training were measured during extinction, which also involved a further scheduling of the R—S r pairings. The results of the study showed that the animals were discriminating, and that S D functioned as S r during extinction. However, there was no c…
