  • Personality Traits in Adolescent Adjustment Reactions

    Open Access•William N Thetford, Helen Schucman•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1972

The purpose of this study was to test hypotheses advanced by the Personality Assessment System, a theoretical approach which infers personality structure and function from intelligence test data. The sample consisted of 82 emotionally disturbed adolescents who were divided into 2 groups, one considered “more disturbed” and the other “less disturbed.” 3 specific hypotheses determined in advance were tested, 2 of which were upheld. The results are …

  • Conversion Reactions and Personality Traits

    Open Access•William N Thetford, Helen Schucman•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1970

2 previously supported hypotheses were tested with 30 Ss showing conversion reactions. Relations between their symptoms and personality traits as identified by the Personality Assessment System (PAS) were studied. The results support the hypotheses and provide further evidence of the usefulness of the PAS in studying patient groups

  • Self-Choices, Preferences, and Personality Traits

    Open Access•William N Thetford, Helen Schucman•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1969

This is the third in a series of studies based on the Personality Assessment System (PAS), a new approach to relating personality traits to intellectual test performance. In the sample were 152 young, white, “normal” males of at least average intelligence. The purpose was to test hypotheses involving Ss' self-concepts and preferences as obtained independently of the intelligence test data on an instrument devised along theory-determined lines. 9 …

  • Expressed Symptoms and Personality Traits in Conversion Hysteria

    Open Access•Helen Schucman, William N Thetford•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1968

The study was based on the Personality Assessment System (PAS), a new approach to relating personality traits to Wechsler test performance. The purpose was to study relations between PAS personality patterns and expressed symptoms in conversion hysterics. This group was chosen because their symptoms presumably reflect essential personality features. The sample of 124 Ss was divided in 2 parts, the data being obtained and analyzed separately. 3 sp…

  • Personality Patterns in Migraine and Ulcerative Colitis Patients

    Open Access•William N Thetford, Helen Schucman•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1968

This is part of a larger study of relationships between Wechsler subtest patterns and personality traits as identified by the Personality Assessment System (PAS). The PAS, a descriptive system which offers the clinician a method for inferring personality structure and function from objective Wechsler test data, has major advantages for clinical research. The system provides a number of readily testable hypotheses related to differential personali…
