Correlations between Beck Depression Scores and Physical Complaints
The relationship between physical complaint and depression is explored for 29 male and 27 female students, normal subjects, from a middle to upper-middle socioeconomic class. Results bear out the clinically reported and theoretically hypothesized relationship between these two variables
Systematic Desensitization as a Component for Treatment of Alopecia Areata
Systematic desensitization and relaxation were employed to examine their effects on hair growth in a 20-yr.-old male with a 4-yr. history of alopecia areata. Six bald scalp patches were photographed over 6 mo.; 2 ordered hierarchies involving interpersonal and compulsive themes were presented in 8 treatment sessions. Labeling mental illness is explored, utilizing sociological concepts. An exploratory study assessed psychiatric diagnosis, hospital days, and prescribed medication. Data are presented on relation of age to days hospitalized, socio-economic status, status to psychiatric diagnosis, psychiatric diagnosis to prior hospitalization, and percentage of community referrals.
