  • Effects of Genotype and Prior Consumption of Alcohol on Rates of Ethanol-1- 14 C Metabolism in Mice

Kurt Schlesinger, Edward L Bennett et al.•ARTICLE•Quarterly Journal of Studies on…•1967

Previous findings of strain differences in alcohol-drinking behavior of mice, and a positive relation between the activity of liver alcohol dehydrogenase and the alcohol-drinking behavior of mice, suggested the hypothesis that alcohol- choosing behavior may be a function of the ability to metabolize alcohol. Rates of ethanol-1-14C conversion to 14CO2 were determined in male mice (60 to 87 days old), of strains C57BL/Crgl (N=10), C57BL/6J (N=24), …

  • Effects of Tetraethylthiuramdisulfide (Antabuse) on the Metabolism and Consumption of Ethanol in Mice

Kurt Schlesinger, RYOKO KAKIHANA et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1966

Acetaldehyde accumulation following ethanol administration and the effects of Antabuse on ethanol metabolism were studied in C57BL/CrgI and DBA/2Crgl mice. In alcohol preference tests, C57BL/Crgl mice consistently prefer alcohol to water, whereas DBA/2CrgI mice avoid alcohol. C57BL/Crgl mice were found to accumulate significantly less acetaldehyde than DBA/2Crgl mice following ethanol administration. Antabuse was found to increase acetaldehyde ac…

  • Psychological Variables in Allergic Disorders

    EDITH H FREEMAN, BEN F FEINGOLD et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1964

Experimental and clinical studies relating psychological variables and allergic illness are summarized and critically reviewed. Special emphasis is given to methodological issues. The review, embracing principally English-language reports since 1950, focuses on respiratory allergy--asthma, rhinitis, hay fever

  • Psychological Studies of Allergic Women

    BEN F FEINGOLD, FRANK J GORMAN et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1962

Psychological tests were administered to allergic patients differing with respect to diagnosis and severity of reactivity to skin testing with allergens. The results indicate that severity of skin reaction is a significant dimension along which patients differed with respect to personality pattern. Type of allergic disease in small numbers of cases was not found to be a significant dimension in terms of personality configuration
