School support, perceived value and teachers' digital training adaptability
Digital training has significantly transformed the landscape of teacher professional development, introducing various uncertainties. In this context, adaptability can play a crucial role in helping teachers cope with stress and effectively navigate new and changing scenarios. However, existing research on adaptability has not adequately addressed the specific challenges and opportunities presented by digital training, nor has it thoroughly explor…
An fNirs Study of the Effects of Sound in Real Scenes on Joint Attention among Individuals With Autistic Traits in China
There is no consensus on whether adult with autistic traits joint attention (JA) deficits. Additionally, previous studies have mostly been conducted in traditional laboratory settings, lacking ecological validity. This study aimed to address these limitations by using real-life scenarios and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) techniques to investigate the impact of sound cues on JA among individuals with Autistic Traits in China. 23 hi…

Analysis of Drought and Flood Variations on a 200-Year Scale Based on Historical Environmental Information in Western China
Historical environmental evidence has been characterized by time accuracy, high spatial resolution and rich information, which may be widely used in the reconstruction of historical data series. Taking the upper reaches of the Weihe River as an example in Western China, the grades and index sequences of the drought and flood disasters from 1800 to 2016 were reconstructed based on various historical environmental information and standardized preci…
Serum Levels of CXCR4, SDF-1, MCP-1, NF-κB and ERK1/2 in Patients with Skeletal Fluorosis
C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4), stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) affect bone cells and play an important role in bone and joint diseases, but the data on CXCR4, SDF-1, MCP-1, ERK1/2 and NF-κB in the serum of skeletal fluorosis (SF) patients are inconclusive. Thus, according to the "Diagnostic Criteria for En…
Anaerobic co-digestion of food waste and FOG with sewage sludge – realising its potential in Ireland
The severe environmental pollution in many countries is caused by indiscriminate discharge of large quantities of food waste (FW), fat oil and grease (FOG) and sewage sludge (SS) to the environment. There are many possible treatment routes, but anaerobic digestion (AD) is now well accepted for treating several kinds of organic wastes. But AD of FW alone presents some operational challenges because of substrates and variability. Anaerobic co-diges…
Interaction Mechanism between Antibiotics and Humic Acid by UV-Vis Spectrometry
In this study, the interaction between the humus and two antibiotics was studied by UV-Vis spectroscopy to describe the interaction mechanism and the effects of different environmental factors on the mechanism. Results showed that humic acid (HA) containing more aromatic groups was easily associated with antibiotics. In the HA-OTC, with the increase of the concentration of OTC, there were obvious absorption peaks in the 230−260 nm and 330−360 nm …
Concentrations, Distributions, and Risk Assessment of HBCD in Sediment in the Weihe River Basin in Northwest China
As one of the most widely used brominated flame retardants, hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) is found widely in the environmental media. In this study, the content and spatial distribution of HBCD and risk posed by HBCD in surface sediment in the Weihe River Basin in Northwest China were investigated. The HBCD concentration ranged nd−4.04 ng/g dw with the mean was 0.45 ng/g dw. The major source of HBCD in surface sediment was local point discharge. …
Enhanced Nutrients Removal Using Reeds Straw as Carbon Source in a Laboratory Scale Constructed Wetland
The low carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio and high nitrate content characteristics of agricultural runoff restricted the nitrogen removal in constructed wetlands (CWs). To resolve such problems, the economically- and easily-obtained Phragmites Australis (reeds) litters were applied and packed in the surface layer of a surface flow CW as external carbon sources. The results demonstrated that the introduction of the reeds straw increased the C concentrat…
Using alum sludge for clay brick
Throughout the world, alum sludge is dewatered and the resultant cakes are discarded in landfill. This paper reports a study to investigate the possible incorporation of alum sludge as a partial replacement for clay in clay brick manufacturing. It is the first study of this problem in Ireland. Alum sludge cakes and clay were separately dried, ground and sieved in preparation for making test specimens. Cylindrical clay bricks were made at differen…
Design of a novel constructed treatment wetland system with consideration of ambient landscape
A ‘fan-shape’ constructed wetland (CW) system is designed to treat domestic wastewater as well as to provide an aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sensitive landscape with ornamental plants for recreation. The system consists of two-stage subsurface horizontal flow CW cells with dewatered alum sludge cakes as the main substrate to ensure the treatment efficiency. The system is located in a new countryside village in Northwest China. The p…
Immobilization of arsenic in aqueous solution by waterworks alum sludge
In this study, groups of batch experiments were designed to identify the characteristics of alum sludge for arsenic (As) adsorption. Air-dried alum sludge (moisture content 13.9%) collected from a water treatment works in Xi'an, China, was subjected to artificial As-rich wastewater adsorption tests using As2O3 as a model As source. Adsorption behaviours were investigated and the results have shown that the Langmuir adsorption isotherm well fits t…
Current status of pesticides application and their residue in the water environment in Ireland
Pesticides have been listed by the Irish Environmental Protection Agency as potentially dangerous pollutants that may pose a significant risk to the water environment in the Republic of Ireland (ROI). Although this analysis of pesticides data was based on the existing pesticides application survey in ROI, this study aims to produce a geographical information system profile for the amount of pesticides used in agriculture and the distribution of t…

Fate of water treatment residual
Ireland’s water treatment residual (WTR) production rate and reuse situation was investigated to complement the novel research on WTR reuse development in University College Dublin, Ireland. The resulting GIS maps reveal the state of WTR production, disposal and beneficial reuse throughout the country. The total WTR production in Ireland is 15,679 tonnes of dry solids per annum with over 90% of WTR being aluminium‐salt‐coagulated WTR. Only 8% of …
