What are the odds that smoking will kill you
We calculated the long-term risks of death from smoking for individuals of various ages and smoking status in terms of the excess mortality contributed by smoking, over and above the baseline mortality from the same diseases caused by factors other than smoking using standard life table procedures. Since mortality data for specific smoking categories were available only from prospective studies in the late 1950s, we scaled these to the 1982 morta…
Alcohol Selection by Rats After Experience with a Sapid Alcohol-Sucrose Solution
After choosing to drink an alcohol-sucrose solution rather than water, rats subsequently chose water rather than an alcohol solution
Emotional Behavior and Adrenal Function in the Rat
The relationship of open-field behaviors (latency, ambulation, rearing, and defecation) and adrenal weight and adrenal ascorbic acid (AAA) was investigated. 38 male Sprague-Dawley rats received one daily trial in the open field for 4 days. Measures of adrenal weight and AAA were subsequently obtained. Correlations between variables indicated no meaningful relationship between emotional defecation and adrenal responses. Rearing correlated signific…
