Effect of a Secondary Reinforcement Stimulus on the Auditory Startle Response
Two experiments were carried out in which food-deprived rats received food pellets in the presence of an intermittent light-sound stimulus. The animals were then tested in a stabilimeter device for magnitude of startle reaction to a loud, percussive sound in the presence and absence of the light-sound (secondary reinforcement) stimulus. Exp. I showed a non-significant tendency for the startle amplitude to be less in the presence of the secondary …
Note on Strychnine Sulphate, General Activity and Facilitation of Learning
Effects of three doses (.1, .3, and .7 mg/kg) of strychnine sulphate on the general activity of the rat were studied. None of the doses influenced exploration or any other aspect of spontaneous behavior. This finding restricts the generality of the view that attributes the facilitation of learning produced by strychnine to a decrease in the level of general activity
