Scaling of the Subjective Stress Scale with a Sample of University Undergraduates
The Subjective Stress Scale was rescaled with a sample of university undergraduates using the method of successive intervals. Scale values were found to correlate .93 with previously established values obtained from a military sample although the order of the items along the stress continuum changed somewhat. The revised order for student populations is presented
Repressor-Sensitizer Differences in Psychiatric Patients on Repeated Exposures to Film Induced Stress
A stressful film was shown twice to 39 psychiatric patients divided into 3 groups on the basis of their R-S scores. Skin conductance was monitored during the films and an adjective check list completed after each film. Differences among groups fell just short of statistical significance on both stress measures. The effects of the repression-sensitization personality dimension do not seem to account for as large a part of the variability in psychi…
Factors affecting the outcome of child psychiatric consultations
A followup study of children seen for psychiatric consultation established several variables as significant determinants of whether the recommendations made during the consultations would or would not be carried out. Many of these factors can be manipulated by the psychiatrist in order to ensure that his consultations are more effective
Conditionability and Age in Human Adults
40 neurotic female patients, aged 16 to 65, were conditioned using a finger withdrawal response and GSR to shock. In a second experiment, using 30 neurotic and 30 normal females, aged 16 to 65, finger withdrawal, GSR, and heart-rate responses were conditioned to shock, and an eyeblink response was conditioned to an airpuff.
