  • Psychopathology and Stem Cell Mobilization in Ultra-High Risk of Psychosis and First-Episode Psychosis Patients

    Open Access•Katarzyna Waszczuk, Jolanta Kucharska–Mazur et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Although regenerative and inflammatory processes are involved in the etiopathogenesis of many psychiatric disorders, their roles are poorly understood. We investigate the potential role of stem cells (SC) and factors influencing the trafficking thereof, such as complement cascade (CC) components, phospholipid substrates, and chemokines, in the etiology of schizophrenia. We measured sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), stromal-derived factor 1 (SDF-1), …

  • Metaphor Processing Dysfunctions in Schizophrenia Patients With and Without Substance Use Disorders

Open Access•Ewa Karabanowicz, Ernest Tyburski et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Individuals with schizophrenia, regardless of their substance use disorder (SUD) status, exhibit impaired metaphorical content processing. SUD in schizophrenia is not associated with significant impairments in understanding and explaining metaphorical content. Moreover, impairments in processing metaphorical content are associated with more severe negative symptoms of schizophrenia

  • Metabolic Syndrome and Cognitive Functions in Schizophrenia—Implementation of Dietary Intervention

Open Access•Katarzyna Adamowicz, Aleksandra Mazur et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Introduction: The co-existence of schizophrenia and metabolic syndrome is a widely described phenomenon that contributes to the worse functioning of patients in everyday life. A relatively new area of research is the relationship between metabolic syndrome (MS) and cognitive function in patients with schizophrenia. The aim of the study was to verify the relationship between the presence of metabolic syndrome and cognitive function of patients wit…

  • Color Trails Test

Open Access•Ernest Tyburski, Ewa Karabanowicz et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Schizophrenia patients exhibit problems with speed of perceptual tracking and executive processes dependent on processing speed. Our results may be useful for the development of neuropsychological diagnostic methods for schizophrenia patients. It seems that, compared to other CTT indices, CTT 1 time, CTT 2 time, and 2-1 difference are more appropriate measures of cognitive performance in schizophrenia patients

  • What Regulates Gratitude Response of Women and Men? The Role of the Received Good, Psychosocial Factors, and Repayment

Open Access•Joanna Preś, Jacek Kurpisz et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2018

This paper touches upon gender differences concerning psychosocial factors related to the emotional reaction of gratitude and forms of expressing gratitude in quasi-experimental conditions. It is based on findings from a study conducted on 576 participants of both sexes, aged 14 to 86 years. There were used three versions of the same questionnaire, depending on the type of the received good—material, intangible, or none. The participants’ gratitu…
