Evaluation and Validation of the Mikulecky Behavioral Reading Attitude Measure
This study examined the Mikulecky Behavioral Reading Attitude Measure (MBRAM) to ascertain whether or not the scale measures Krathwohl's five stages of attitude internalization and is a Guttman type (true hierarchical) scale in addition to being unidimensional. The results of the analysis showed that the instrument has Guttman scale properties exceeding recommended indexes. Coefficients of reproducibility, scalability, internal reliability coeffi…
Effectiveness of Progressive Relaxation on Test Anxiety and Visual Perception
Progressive relaxation as a modifier of self-reported test anxiety and cognitive visual perception in undergraduates was tested on 23 volunteers found susceptible to progressive relaxation as indicated by selected items from the Harvard Group Scale of Hypnotic Susceptibility. Subjects were randomly assigned to treatment and control groups. Pretreatment consisted of the Test Anxiety Inventory and the Hidden Figures Test. Posttreatment measures wer…
Self-Concept and Job Satisfaction
This cross-validated study focuses on the stability and replicability of the relationship between self-concept as measured by the Tennessee Self-concept Scale and job-related attitudes as measured by the Purdue Teacher Opinionnaire. A significant canonical correlation was obtained for the two sets of scales using two groups of 195 classroom teachers and accounted for 25% of the common variance. Canonical variate weights show that teachers derive …
