Factor Structure of the Comrey Personality Scales, the Personality Research Form—E, and the Five-Factor Model
According to McCrae and Costa, Norman's 1963 five-factor model of personality based on peer ratings provides a universal and comprehensive framework for describing individual differences in personality and also for interpreting different personality systems. This study tested the generality and comprehensiveness of the five-factor model using Comrey Personality Scales and Jackson's 1984 Personality Research Form-E. Separate principal axis analyse…

Development of Covert and Overt Hostility Scales from the Buss-Durkee Inventory
The purpose of this study was to develop covert and overt hostility scales from the Buss-Durkee Inventory. First, 22 covert hostility and 29 overt hostility items were identified by the authors. Second, an item analysis was done to assess the content saturation of the individual items on these scales. This analysis yielded the final form for 7 items for covert hostility and 14 for overt hostility. Cronbach alphas for the covert and overt scales w…
On the Factor Structure of the Personality Research Form-E
Contrary to Jackson's 1974 theoretical conceptualization of the factors underlying the Personality Research Form-E, later in 1985 Fowler found a nurturance factor but not an achievement factor. A major problem may be the predominantly female sample in Fowler's study. This study replicated Fowler's using a sample with equal proportions of men and women. Among other things, analyses yielded an achievement factor and not a nurturance factor. Implica…
On the Content Saturation of the Buss-Durkee Hostility Inventory Scales
Since the scales in the Buss-Durkee Hostility Inventory do not have good factorial validity and good discriminant validity, Jackson's (1970) theory of personality scale development would predict that most of the items in each of these scales would have low content saturation. The present study empirically tested this prediction and found strong support for it. Implications of the results were discussed
