  • Messenger Acceptability for Suicide Means Safety Messages for Firearm Owners

    Open Access•Logan Smith•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2025

Means safety, the process by which an individual's endorsed or expected method of suicide is made less available, is a widely used suicide prevention method. For firearm owners, this process involves delivering a means safety message, the acceptability of which may be influenced by the identity of the messenger. Open Access•Mackenzie A Maddox, Rachel F L Walsh et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Youth and Adolescence•2025•References: 64

Pubertal maturation is linked to changes in the reward and circadian systems, which may increase vulnerability to psychopathology. Less is known about the associations between reward and circadian systems preceding onset of psychopathology. The current study examined associations between trait reward sensitivity, circadian rhythms, pubertal development, and depressive symptoms. Participants ( n = 320) were recruited from the Philadelphia area and…

Given the interpersonal nature of social media (SM), we examined the relationship between Instagram, Twitter, and suicidal ideatio…

Brian J Higginbotham, Brian Higginbotham et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Divorce & Remarriage•2012

Although stepfamily education is believed to improve family relationships, little is known about how stepfamily education impacts stepfather relationships specifically. Using a systems theory approach, this qualitative study examines the experiences of 14 European American stepfathers who participated in a 12-hour research-based stepfamily education course. Although the majority of men initially needed some encouragement to attend, they all felt …

  • Chronic Pain and Addiction

Mel Pohl, Logan Smith et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychoactive Drugs•2012

Chronic pain is commonly treated by prescribing an opioid medication. For those suffering from both chronic pain and substance dependence, barriers to adequate pain management increase. This often causes both disorders to exacerbate one another. Effective treatment may also be hampered by opioid-induced hyperalgesia, tolerance, physical dependence, "chemical coping," and diminished physical and emotional functioning. This article reviews current …
