  • Rethinking “sincretismo” in Mexico

    Open Access•Rana Rizk•ARTICLE•Las Torres de Lucca. International…•2026

Syncretism constantly occupies a standpoint based upon double critique that generates clashes and perplexity between different worlds. On such a basis, I intend to reinterpret some doubts regarding the artwork "Sincretismo" by the Mexican artist Ismael Vargas, using a filter of readings that amalgamates current paradigms and ideologies through its impact in Mexico recently. This piece of art provoked a strong echo of controversy and utterances of…

Open Access•Nadine Mahboub, Maryam Al Slaybe et al.•ARTICLE•Social Sciences & Humanities Open•2025

  • Food insecurity and lifestyle behaviours in university students amidst the Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Maria M Witkowiak, Adama Nana Idris et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

This study suggests that FI impacts university students in countries of varying income levels, and the country of residence independently influences lifestyle behaviours. Larger-size studies are essential to confirm these findings and further explore FI's impact on university students outside the context of the pandemic

  • The psychological impact of Covid-19 in a socio-politically unstable environment

    Open Access•Myriam El Khoury-Malhame, Rana Rizk et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2023

Mental health significantly degrades post-COVID lockdown, even in the absence of direct viral threat. Yet simple behavioral and cognitive changes like sleep and attitude of gratitude could provide protective factors against these psychological distresses. Such changes should be further explored and advocated as cost-efficient self-care practices to buffer this devastating public health burden, especially in unstable socio-political environments

  • Assessing the relationship between food insecurity and lifestyle behaviors among university students

Open Access•Rana Rizk, Chadia Haddad et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

The high prevalence of food insecurity reported in this study is alarming, particularly among Lebanese students; German students had better diet quality and higher physical activity but worse adherence to the Mediterranean diet. Moreover, food insecurity was also associated with worse sleep and stress. Further studies are necessary to assess the role of food insecurity as a mediating factor between sociodemographic characteristics and lifestyle b…
