Effects of caffeine ingestion on outdoor 800-m running performance
Bayesian network analysis of academic performance and its behavioral determinants among junior high school students in Japan
Using Bayesian network analysis to analyze datasets from Japan’s National Assessment of Academic Ability, we examined how academic performance in junior high school students (aged 14 and 15) in Japan is predicted by students’ everyday and study behaviors. Academic performance is associated with study behaviors. Weekend study time, followed by study planning and weekday study time, had the greatest effect on academic performance. Multiple linear r…
Relative age effect on the physical activity and sedentary behavior in children and adolescents aged 10 to 18 years old
The relative age effect on physical activity can persist after middle school, and the relatively younger individuals are more likely to replace physical activity with sedentary behavior
Neighborhood-level socioeconomic factors moderate the association between physical activity and relative age effect
Socioeconomic factors moderate the relative age effect on adolescents' physical activity. The relative age effect on adolescents' physical activity might be more likely to appear among adolescents from socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods
Association of Neighborhood Food Environment and Physical Activity Environment With Obesity
Objective: This study examined the relationship between neighborhood food and physical activity environment, and obesity among elementary and junior high school students in Japan. Methods: The participants were fifth- to ninth-grade children (n=7277), who were attending municipal schools in Japan. Percent overweight (POW) was calculated using their age, gender, height, and weight, which were collected through a questionnaire. A POW of Results: In…
Effects of High Intensity Interval Training on Executive Function in Children Aged 8–12 Years
This study investigated the effects of a high intensity interval training (HIIT) program on both physical fitness and executive functions in children. Fifty-six children aged 8–12 years participated in this study, and were divided into a HIIT group and a control group. The HIIT group performed three sessions of the 8- to 10-min HIIT program per week for 4 weeks. Before and after the intervention, 20-m shuttle runs, sit-ups, and standing long jump…
