Exclusive Breastfeeding Knowledge, Practice, and Perceived Challenges Among In-School Adolescent Mothers in Dodoma Region, Tanzania
Prevalence and associated factors of early sexual initiation among female youth in Tanzania
This study found a significant proportion of female youths who had early sexual initiation. Lack of education, increase in age, media exposure, and employment were associated with early sexual initiation. There is a great need for a multifaceted approach that includes educational reforms and comprehensive economic strengthening while addressing structural inequalities that increase sexual vulnerability in addressing early sexual debut among femal…
Sexual behaviours, self-reported health outcomes, and associated determinants among adolescents
The study aimed to assess the prevalence and determinants of sexual behaviour among adolescents aged 10–19 years in mainland Tanzania. It employed a pragmatic research paradigm using an analytical cross-sectional survey design with bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses to determine the association between variables, at a 95% confidence interval and a 5% statistical significance level. Participants had an average age of 15 ± 1.86…
Parent-adolescent communication about sexual and reproductive health and its determinants among adolescents
Regardless of the importance of youth in socio-economic development around the globe, adolescents aged between 10 and 19 years face problems ranging from their basic to Sexual and Reproductive Health economic needs (SRH). This study determined baseline parent-adolescent communication about SRH from a randomized controlled trial of integrated reproductive health materials in a Problem-Based Pedagogy (PBP) for shaping safe sexual behavior among ado…
Attitude and prevalence of early sexual debut and associated risk sexual behavior among adolescents in Tanzania; Evidence from baseline data in a Randomized Controlled Trial
Findings suggest that holding a positive attitude towards early sexual debut is a precursor to early sexual activity among adolescents. Unsafe sex, coercive sex, and other risky sexual behaviors are not uncommon among adolescents starting sex before the age of 18 years. Exposure to drug abuse, online sexual content, and/or social groups significantly influenced early sexual debut irrespective of other known factors. Age-appropriate school-based s…
Factors Associated With Uptake of Iron Supplement During Pregnancy Among Women of Reproductive Age in Tanzania
Background: Pregnant women are vulnerable to iron deficiency due to the fact that more iron is needed primarily to supply the growing fetus and placenta and to increase the maternal red cell mass. Little is known on the factors associated with uptake of iron supplement during pregnancy. Methods: The study used data from the 2015 to 2016 Tanzania Demographic and Health Survey and Malaria Indicators Survey. A total of 6,924 women of active reproduc…
Sustainable solid waste management Measures in Tanzania
Vendors were not aware of sustainable solid waste management measures existing at the market. However, vendors' education levels and the duration of doing business at the market were related to their levels of awareness on SWM (p < 0.05). The SWM measures were found to exist at the market, however, they were not sustainable because it was reported that they were ineffectively and inefficiently used to control SW generation, collection, storage, a…
