  • The Consequences of Political Hierarchy

Open Access•Pu Chen, Chunyang Wang•ARTICLE•Oxford Bulletin of Economics and…•2026

Using a comprehensive dataset containing a detailed nine‐level political hierarchy classification for all state‐owned enterprises (SOEs) in China from 1998 to 2013, we find that low‐ranked SOEs have 14% higher productivity than private firms. The result is robust to propensity score matching, instrumental variable approach, and within‐firm analysis. Further findings lend support to the theory of local government's protection as opposed to local i…

  • Multimechanistic actions of functional factors in enhancing physical strength and endurance

Open Access•Xiangyu Huang, Jingjing Zhu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2026

This article provides a scoping review of various types of functional factors and their mechanisms of action in enhancing physical strength and endurance, focusing on their roles in regulating the central nervous system, improving energy metabolism, reducing metabolite accumulation, enhancing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacity, regulating the endocrine system, and improving blood circulation. For functional factors supported by sufficient…

  • Monetary Policy, Investor Sentiment, and the Asymmetric Jump Risk of Chinese Stock Market

Open Access•Jia Wang, Wang Jia et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2024

To investigate the impacts of monetary policies on the jump risk of Chinese stock market, we introduce them into an exponential generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity with autoregressive jump intensity (EGARCH-ARJI) model. A new jump model, i.e., the EGARCH-ARJI model with monetary policy (EGARCH-AM), is constructed. Moreover, investor sentiment is considered to investigate the interaction effect of a monetary policy and invest…

  • Multi-Task Learning-Based Immunofluorescence Classification of Kidney Disease

Open Access•Sai Pan, Yibing Fu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Chronic kidney disease is one of the most important causes of mortality worldwide, but a shortage of nephrology pathologists has led to delays or errors in its diagnosis and treatment. Immunofluorescence (IF) images of patients with IgA nephropathy (IgAN), membranous nephropathy (MN), diabetic nephropathy (DN), and lupus nephritis (LN) were obtained from the General Hospital of Chinese PLA. The data were divided into training and test data. To si…

  • Bargaining to Design Contracts under Moral Hazard

Yanbin Chen, Pu Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Institutional and…•2019

This paper presents a simple bargaining model in a contracting situation betweena risk-neutral principal and a risk-averse agent with limited liability. An increasein the agent's bargaining power has two effects. First, the negotiated contracts provide the agent a higher reward, which gives stronger incentive to exert effort. Second, the agent, whose marginal utility decreases with increasing income, exerts less effort, given the same reward, whe…

  • Effect of an educational intervention on HPV knowledge and attitudes towards HPV and its vaccines among junior middle school students in Chengdu, China

    Open Access•Chunrong Liu, Chun-Rong Liu et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

The baseline level of knowledge on HPV, its vaccines, and cervical cancer was very low among junior middle school students in Chengdu, China. However, the willingness to be vaccinated seemed positive. School-based health education is effective and appropriate in increasing the awareness of HPV and willingness towards its vaccines. Regular health education on HPV and cervical cancer prevention at a shorter interval should be guaranteed to ensure c…

  • Examining microbloggers' individual differences in motivation for social media use

Open Access•Dayong Zhang, Feng Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•2018

Examining individual differences in the intrinsic motivations for social media use is essential for determining what causes individuals to enjoy using social networking sites and to engage more consistently in online activities. We analyzed data obtained from a survey of 227 users of social networking sites in China. We tested the hypothesized model using structural equation modeling. Research findings revealed that personality traits are the bes…
