Reliability of the Spanish version of the pain beliefs and perceptions inventory among women with fibromyalgia in Catalonia, Spain
Fibromyalgia presents a significant challenge to individsuals due to its pervasive pain symptoms. The Pain Beliefs and Perceptions Inventory (PBPI) offers a structured tool to delve into the nuanced beliefs surrounding pain. We aim to explore the feasibility of a condensed version of PBPI in assessing pain perceptions among individuals living with fibromyalgia in Catalonia, Spain. During February 2020 and March 2021, 419 individuals above 18 year…
Relationship of Motor Impairment with Cognitive and Emotional Alterations in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis
Introduction. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurodegenerative disease that, despite mainly affecting women, is more severe in men and causes motor, cognitive and emotional alterations. The objective of this study was to determine the possible relationship between motor, cognitive and emotional alterations. Materials and Methods. This is a descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study, with 67 patients with MS (20 men and 47 women), who were…
Changes in Salivary Immunoglobulin A, Stress, and Burnout in a Workplace Mindfulness Intervention
The purpose of this pilot study was to examine the effectiveness of a 6-week workplace mindfulness- and self-compassion-based intervention (MSCBI) on perceived stress, burnout, immune functioning (assessed with the biomarker Immunoglobulin A), self-compassion, and experiential avoidance compared to a Workplace Stress Management Intervention. Both interventions were contextual, i.e., they were carried out in the workplace setting and during workin…
Feasibility, Effectiveness, and Mechanisms of a Brief Mindfulness- and Compassion-Based Program to Reduce Stress in University Students
The mental health of university students is a public health concern, as psychopathology has significantly risen among this population. Mindfulness-based programs may support their mental health, though more research is needed. We used a two-armed pilot randomized controlled trial to study the feasibility, preliminary effectiveness, and potential mechanisms of a brief 6-week instructor-led mindfulness- and compassion-based program (MCBP for Univer…
Frenetic, under-Challenged, and Worn-out Burnout Subtypes among Brazilian Primary Care Personnel
Primary healthcare personnel show high levels of burnout. A new model of burnout has been developed to distinguish three subtypes: frenetic, under-challenged, and worn-out, which are characterized as overwhelmed, under-stimulated, and disengaged at work, respectively. The aim of this study was to assess the psychometric properties of the long/short Brazilian versions of the "Burnout Clinical Subtypes Questionnaire" (BCSQ-36/BCSQ-12) among Brazili…
Testing the Intermediary Role of Perceived Stress in the Relationship between Mindfulness and Burnout Subtypes in a Large Sample of Spanish University Students
The burnout syndrome is the consequence of chronic stress that overwhelms an individual's resources to cope with occupational or academic demands. Frenetic, under-challenged, and worn-out are different burnout subtypes. Mindfulness has been recognized to reduce stress, comprising five facets (observing, describing, acting with awareness, non-judging of inner experience, and non-reactivity to inner experience). This cross-sectional study aimed to …
Gender, Coping, and Mental Health
We examined the relationships among gender, coping, and mental health in terms of probabilities. We selected a sample of university students ( N = 131) aged between 18 and 32 years, and used the GHQ-28 and COPE instruments for analysis. The Bayesian network model that we constructed showed higher probabilities of symptoms of mental health problems for emotion-focused coping than for problem-focused coping. No differences were found regarding gend…
