  • Bayesian Spatial Joint Model for Disease Mapping of Zero-Inflated Data with R-Inla

Open Access•Naeimehossadat Asmarian, Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Hierarchical Bayesian log-linear models for Poisson-distributed response data, especially Besag, York and Mollié (BYM) model, are widely used for disease mapping. In some cases, due to the high proportion of zero, Bayesian zero-inflated Poisson models are applied for disease mapping. This study proposes a Bayesian spatial joint model of Bernoulli distribution and Poisson distribution to map disease count data with excessive zeros. Here, the spati…

  • The Effect of Cross-loading on Measurement Equivalence of Psychometric Multidimensional Questionnaires in MIMIC Model

Open Access•Jamshid Jamali, Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi et al.•ARTICLE•Materia Socio Medica•2018

INTRODUCTION: In recent years, Multiple Indicators Multiple Causes (MIMIC) model has been widely used to assess measurement in variance, called Differential Item Functioning (DIF) analyses, in psychological and medical studies. AIM: This simulation study aimed at assessing the effect of sample size, scale length, and magnitude of the uniform-DIF on detecting uniform-DIF with the MIMIC model when it has cross-loading in multidimensional scales. MA…

  • Classification of Iranian Nurses According to their Mental Health Outcomes Using GHQ-12 Questionnaire

Jamshid Jamali, Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi et al.•ARTICLE•Materia Socio Medica•2015

BACKGROUND: Nurses constitute the most providers of health care systems. Their mental health can affect the quality of services and patients' satisfaction. General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) is a general screening tool used to detect mental disorders. Scoring method and determining thresholds for this questionnaire are debatable and the cut-off points can vary from sample to sample. This study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of mental…

  • Testing parent dyad interchangeability in the parent proxy-report of PedsQLTM 4.0

  • Quality of life of childbearing age women and its associated factors

Open Access•Sareh Keshavarzi, Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2012

  • Height and weight of primary schoolchildren in Shiraz city, southern Iran, 2002

Open Access•Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi, Saeedeh Pourahmad•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2006

This paper aims at presenting updated growth reference data for height and weight of 2,397 healthy schoolchildren (1,268 boys and 1,129 girls) aged 6.5-11.5 years in Shiraz (Iran), using a multistage sampling scheme. Our schoolchildren are now significantly taller and heavier for their age than their peers born 15 years earlier. However, the statistical models for estimating age-related centiles were consistent. A comparison of our current data w…

  • Trend in physical growth among children in southern Iran, 1988–2003

Open Access•Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi, Saeedeh Pourahmad et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2006

The purpose of this paper is to describe and discuss a significant secular trend in stature, weight and mid-arm circumference (MAC) of school children of the same age (6.5-11.5 years) and sex in representative samples from primary schools of Shiraz (southern Iran) at an interval of 15 years (1988 vs 2003). Both samples include children of various socio-economic backgrounds. For both males and females of each age-class, there are significant posit…

  • Growth velocity standards from longitudinally measured infants of age 0-2 years born in Shiraz, southern Iran

Open Access•Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2005

This paper presents growth velocity data for a cohort of 317 infants (164 girls and 153 boys) born in Shiraz, southern Iran, in 1996 and followed longitudinally for 2 years. The growth velocity of five anthropometric measurements (height, weight, arm, head, and chest circumferences) declined rapidly from 2 weeks to 7 months of age and less steeply thereafter for both sexes. Growth velocities for boys were higher than girls in the first months but…

  • Sizes and obesity pattern of South Iranian adolescent females

Open Access•Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2003

It is concluded that the ponderal index is an appropriate index to study obesity of adolescent females, and is a simple one that is biologically plausible. However, other indices such as weight-for-height may be considered as an alternative. A local standard for assessing sizes and obesity of adolescent females is recommended for clinical as well as community health purposes in Iran

  • Age at menarche in Iran

Open Access•Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi, E Dowlatabadi et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2002

It is concluded that BMI and SES had the most significant effects on variation of menarcheal age in a unified statistical model. However, their interaction was found to be not statistically significant

  • Infants' growth charts for southern Iran

Open Access•Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi, K Ahmadi et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2001

Currently there are no growth charts based on local norms available for infants in Iran, and their growth is assessed by the National Centre for Health Statistics (NCHS) reference data, which is misleading. Growth charts for a cohort of 317 infants (164 girls and 153 boys) born in Shiraz (Southern Iran) in 1996 and followed for 2 years from birth are presented. All the centiles of length and weight charts are slightly above those of the NCHS char…

  • Age standardization of weight-for-height in children using a unified Z-score method

Open Access•Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1995

Weight-for-height standards in children are usually constructed on the basis that the expected weight for a given height does not depend on age, an assumption which is unjustified. Analysis of data from a Shiraz (Iran) growth study confirms the need to take age into account when assessing weight-for-height of schoolchildren aged 6-12. The method described by Cole in 1979 (Annals of Human Biology, 6, 249-268) leads to errors in the assessment of t…

  • Height, weight, BMI and weight-for-height of adults in southern Iran

    Open Access•Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi, R G Carpenter•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1993

Height, weight, body mass index (BMI) and weight for height are reported for 2210 parents of a random sample of school children in Shiraz, Iran. Weight for age and weight for height centiles have been computed by the Healy, Rasbash and Yang's nonparametric method and are presented graphically. The Iranian adults are taller and heavier than previously reported for people in the region but are smaller than European and US white adults. The distribu…

  • Growth of school children of southern Iran in relation to the NCHS standard

    Open Access•Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Ayatollahi, R G Carpenter•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1991

Height and weight of school children aged 6-12 years in Shiraz (Iran) are reported. The smooth centile values have been derived from the raw data by Healy's nonparametric method. Median heights and weights of children in Shiraz lie approximately on the 25th centile of US children, but are above most groups of children from the developing world. The spread of the data is similar to that observed in US, and there is no evidence of widespread malnut…
