  • Revolutionary Cuba at 50: Growth with Equity Revisited

    Open Access•Claes Brundenius•ARTICLE•Latin American Perspectives•2009•Cited by: 10•References: 4

A balance sheet of the Cuban Revolution in terms of growth performance, equity, and the satisfaction of basic needs after 50 years is a mixed bag. Growth performance has been disappointing during most of the past 25 years, although there are today some encouraging new trends. Income distribution that was quite equal in 1985 has seen some deterioration since 1990. Agriculture has been one of the failures, and the question is raised whether current…

  • Whither the Cuban economy after recovery? The reform process, upgrading strategies and the question of transition

    Open Access•Claes Brundenius•ARTICLE•Journal of Latin American Studies•2002•Cited by: 5

Where is the Cuban economy heading? The economy has been recovering at an average rate of four per cent per year since 1994 (after GDP declined by 35 per cent between 1989 and 1993). Many reforms have been undertaken in the direction of a market economy, but it is far from clear what kind of economy the Cuban ruling party has in mind after recovery. This article discusses the successes and shortcomings of the reform process in Cuba since the down…

Claes Brundenius, Geske Dijkstra•ARTICLE•Hispanic American Historical Review•1993

  • The Anatomy of Imperialism: The Case of the Multinational Mining Corporations in Peru

    Open Access•Claes Brundenius•ARTICLE•Journal of Peace Research•1972•Cited by: 4•References: 2

This article studies the functioning and the changing character of imperialism and how it affects the people subjugated to it. This is done through an historical analysis of the mining sector of a so-called underdeveloped country, Peru. The study shows the details of the methods of exploitation of modern multinational corporations, and demonstrates the intimate links existing between the 'national' bourgeoisie in Peru and foreign capital. In ligh…
