Gender differences in the relationship between serum zinc concentration and metabolic syndrome
This study observed a gender difference between serum zinc and MetS, with higher levels being positively associated with MetS in men and having a protective effect in women. Further studies are needed to elucidate the role of zinc status in the development of MetS
Normality Tests for Statistical Analysis
Statistical errors are common in scientific literature and about 50% of the published articles have at least one error. The assumption of normality needs to be checked for many statistical procedures, namely parametric tests, because their validity depends on it. The aim of this commentary is to overview checking for normality in statistical analysis using SPSS.
Increased serum nitric oxide metabolites in dysglycaemia
The findings show increased serum NO(x) levels in men, but not women, with impaired fasting glucose and diabetes in a population-based study
Prevalence of hypo- and hypermagnesemia in an Iranian urban population
The data show a relatively high prevalence of abnormal levels of serum Mg, among a general population; levels which may contribute to the pathophysiology of several diseases
High prevalence of undiagnosed diabetes and abnormal glucose tolerance in the Iranian urban population
In conclusion, about one third of Tehranian adults had disturbed glucose tolerance or diabetes. One- third of total cases with diabetes were undiagnosed. Screening individuals with BMI > or = 25 kg/m2 (men), hypertension (men), abdominal obesity (women) and family history of diabetes may be more efficient
