  • Morphology and performance of world championship triathletes

    Open Access•Grant Landers, G J Landers et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2000

Performance is related to body morphology in many sports. With triathlon making its debut into the Olympic programme in 2000, it was deemed important to determine which physical characteristics of elite-level triathletes were significantly related to performance. Seventy-one elite and junior elite triathletes, from 11 nations, competing at the 1997 World Triathlon Championships were measured on a battery of 28 anthropometric dimensions. A factor …

  • Recreational patterns, body composition and socioeconomic status of Western Australian secondary school students

    Open Access•Brian Blanksby, B A Blanksby et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1996

A study of 4672 secondary school students was carried out in order to assess the relationship between body composition, recreational patterns, and socioeconomic status as indicated by parental occupation and the school attended. Results indicated that there were more girls than boys participating in organized sport, and health and fitness activities; and more boys than girls involved in informal recreational activities and home-based passive purs…

  • Secular changes in the stature and mass of Western Australian secondary school children

Open Access•Brian A Blanksby, Brian Blanksby•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1995

Anthropometric data for 4,683 Western Australian secondary school chidren from the metropolitan area of Perth, Western Australia, were compared with figures compiled in 1940 from the same area. In the 44 year period, the average stature of 12‐ to 18‐year‐old males increased by approximately 4% in each 1 year age band and average body mass increased by 15%. Over the same period, girls of similar age showed stature increases with a mean value of 2%…

  • Human kinesiology

    Open Access•Brian A Blanksby, Brian Blanksby et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1981•References: 58

This paper discusses kinesiological aspects of human locomotion in terms of the incomplete morphological adaptation of the body to current lifestyles. Modern instrumentation used for biomechanical analyses is outlined for the most part in the context of human running. Investigations of spatiotemporal and segmental measures by electronic walkways, photography, optoelectronics and angle-angle diagrams are referred to, as is electromyography and dir…

  • Secular changes in the heights and weights of Western Australian primary school children

    Open Access•Brian Blanksby, B A Blanksby et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1974

Anthropometric data for 6864 primary school children from the metropolitan area of Perth, Western Australia, were compared with figures compiled in 1940 for a similar sample from the same area. In the 31 year period, 5–13 year old males increased, on average, by approximately 3·5% in height in each 1 year age group and, in weight, between 8·7% at 5·5 years to 14% by 12·5 years. Over the same period girls of similar age showed height increases wit…
