  • Causal association between PM 2.5 and inflammatory biomarkers: A two-sample Mendelian randomization study

Open Access•Haoxuan Gong, Heqi Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Critical Public Health•2026

Exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is a major global health concern, particularly due to its role in cardiovascular diseases. To investigate the causal effect of PM2.5 on systemic inflammation, we performed a two-sample Mendelian randomization study using genetic data from the IEU OpenGWAS project. We focused on four inflammatory biomarkers: C-reactive protein (CRP), myeloperoxidase (MPO), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interleukin…

  • Trends in myopia prevalence among children and adolescents: A large-scale cross-sectional study in Shihezi, China

Open Access•Xiao Hu, Xiaopeng Hu et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The prevalence of myopia is higher in Shihezi, and myopia develops at an earlier age and the farsighted disappears earlier. The development of myopia begins to increase sharply at the age of 6 years and slows down by the age of 12 years, and the spherical equivalent refraction changes from positive to negative at the age of 6 to 7 years. For policy makers, it is even more important to prevent and control myopia at a younger age

  • Global, regional, and national burden of non-communicable diseases attributable to occupational asbestos exposure 1990–2019 and prediction to 2035: Worsening or improving

Open Access•Xinlu Miao, Teng Yao et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Understanding the burden associated with occupational asbestos exposure on a global and regional scale is necessary to implement coordinated prevention and control strategies. By the GBD Study 2019, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of the non-communicable diseases burden attributable to occupational asbestos exposure. In 2019, 239,330 deaths and 4,189,000 disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) worldwide due to occupational asbestos exposur…

  • Patterns of global burden of 13 diseases attributable to lead exposure, 1990–2019

Open Access•Tongtong Xu, Kangqian Lin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

From 1990 to 2019, the number of deaths and DALYs resulting from lead exposure increased by 70.19% and 35.26%, respectively; however, the ASMR and ASDR decreased by 20.66% and 29.23%, respectively. Ischemic heart disease (IHD), stroke, and hypertensive heart disease (HHD) showed the highest increases in deaths; IHD, stroke, and diabetes and kidney disease (DKD) had the fastest-growing DALYs. The fastest decline in ASMR and ASDR was seen in stroke…

  • Comparison of obesity-related indicators for identifying metabolic syndrome among normal-weight adults in rural Xinjiang, China

Open Access•Le-yao Jian, Shuxia Guo et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

LAP and TyG index are effective indicators for identifying MetS among normal-weight adults in rural Xinjiang. Nomogram models including age, CI, LAP, and TyG index can significantly improve diagnostic ability

  • Updating Framingham CVD risk score using waist circumference and estimated cardiopulmonary function: A cohort study based on a southern Xinjiang population

Open Access•Xue-Ying Sun, Rulin Ma et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

In southern Xinjiang, WC is an independent risk factor for CVD. eCRF is an independent protective factor for CVD. We recommended adding WC and eCRF in the male model and only eCRF in the female model for better risk prediction

  • Predictive power of a body shape index and traditional anthropometric indicators for cardiovascular disease: A cohort study in rural Xinjiang, China

Open Access•Tao Wu, Bin Wei et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2022

In the rural areas of Xinjiang, the traditional anthropometric indicators of WC had better ability to predict the incidence of CVD than ABSI

  • Comparison of Anthropometric and Atherogenic Indices as Screening Tools of Metabolic Syndrome in the Kazakh Adult Population in Xinjiang

    Open Access•Xianghui Zhang, Xiang-Hui Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

According to the IDF, ATP III and JIS criteria, both the WHtR and LAP were better indices for the screening of MetS. The WHtR and LAP parallel test was the most accurate

  • High Cancer Burden in Elderly Chinese, 2005–2011

Open Access•Shugang Li, Xuefei Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

The cancer burden in elderly Chinese was higher in men and rural districts than in women and urban districts, which creates considerable challenges for the Chinese health care system. Comprehensive measures for cancer prevention and treatment in the elderly are needed

  • Ethnic Differences in the Prevalence of High Homocysteine Levels Among Low-Income Rural Kazakh and Uyghur Adults in Far Western China and Its Implications for Preventive Public Health

Open Access•Shuxia Guo, Hongrui Pang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

HHcy was found to be common among the Kazakh and Uyghur. The prevalences of HHcy and H-type hypertension were high among both ethnicities and differed depending on gender and age. Community interventions should be conducted to improve public health conditions among the Kazakh and Uyghur in Xinjiang

  • Association of Serum Free Fatty Acids with Hypertension and Insulin Resistance among Rural Uyghur Adults in Far Western China

Open Access•Shuxia Guo, Yizhong Yan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

FFA is an independent factor for IR and hypertension among Uyghur adults in a rural area of Xinjiang
