  • Genetic structure of the K uwaiti population revealed by paternal lineages

Open Access•Soumaya Triki‐fendri, Soumaya Triki et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2016

OBJECTIVE: We analyzed the Y-chromosome haplogroup diversity in the Kuwaiti population to gain a more complete overview of its genetic landscape. METHOD: A sample of 117 males from the Kuwaiti population was studied through the analysis of 22 Y-SNPs. The results were then interpreted in conjunction with those of other populations from the Middle East, South Asia, North and East Africa, and East Europe. RESULTS: The analyzed markers allowed the di…

  • Synthetic review on the genetic relatedness between North Africa and Arabia deduced from paternal lineage distributions

    Open Access•Soumaya Triki, S Triki-Fendri et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Modern…•2015

Y-chromosome single-nucleotide polymorphisms are highly used for phylogenetic construction and in the study of human migration patterns and evolution. Knowing that these genetic markers are associated with certain aspects of human culture like languages, it has been reported that some specific haplogroups characterize the Arab world. In this review, we draw the main conclusions referring to these polymorphisms in the Arab world, in order to provi…

  • Paternal lineages in L ibya inferred from Y‐chromosome haplogroups

    Open Access•Soumaya Triki‐fendri, Soumaya Triki et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 62

Many studies based on genetic diversity of North African populations have contributed to elucidate the modelling of the genetic landscape in this region. North Africa is considered as a distinct spatial‐temporal entity on geographic, archaeological, and historical grounds, which has undergone the influence of different human migrations along its shaping. For instance, Libya, a North African country, was first inhabited by Berbers and then coloniz…

  • Genetic structure of Kuwaiti population revealed by Y-STR diversity

Open Access•Soumaya Triki, Soumaya Triki-Fendri et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2010

In this study, a sample of 126 Kuwaiti was analysed using 12 Y-chromosome short tandem repeat (STR) polymorphisms. A total of 101 different haplotypes were identified, among which 87 were individual specific. The high haplotype diversity (0.994) supports the usefulness of Y-STR markers in Kuwaiti population diversity investigation. Our results suggest a close genetic relationship between Kuwait and other populations of the Arabian Peninsula, and …
