Open Access•Sara Moreira, Maria Begoña Criado et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Lockdown resulting from the pandemic led to a change in the health habits of the computer workers community. Sedentary work, together with less active lifestyles, aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic leads to impacts on physical activity (PA) and can contribute to the development of musculoskeletal symptoms (MSS). Aim(s): Understand the effects of lockdown on the perception of physical activity levels and on the perception of frequency of musculos…

  • Positive Effects of an Online Workplace Exercise Intervention during the Covid-19 Pandemic on Quality of Life Perception in Computer Workers

Open Access•Sara Moreira, Maria Begoña Criado et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

After 17 weeks of workplace exercises, it became clear that the intervention group positively increased their QoL perception, with this improvement being significant in the Pain domain, which resulted in an improvement in their health condition. Therefore, further studies are needed to determine the optimal exercise for CWs, with detailed exercise types, different intensities and focused on various health conditions

  • Occupational Health

Open Access•Sara Moreira, Maria Salomé Martins Ferreira et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

A lack of physical activity in computer workers (CW) can contribute to the development of musculoskeletal symptoms (MSS). Aim: (i) Evaluate MSS over a 12 month and 7 days period, (ii) determine physical activity (PA) levels and compliance with World Health Organization (WHO) PA recommendations, and (iii) assess the relationship between compliance with WHO PA recommendations and MSS. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study comprising 119 co…

  • Physical activity during pregnancy and its effects on neonatal outcomes

  • Food consumption, physical activity and socio-economic status related to BMI, waist circumference and waist-to-height ratio in adolescents

Open Access•Sandra Abreu, Rute Santos et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2014

Objective To examine the association between obesity and food group intakes, physical activity and socio-economic status in adolescents. Design A cross-sectional study was carried out in 2008. Cole's cut-off points were used to categorize BMI. Abdominal obesity was defined by a waist circumference at or above the 90th percentile, as well as a waist-to-height ratio at or above 0·500. Diet was evaluated using an FFQ, and the food group consumption …

  • Insulin resistance and its relation to adiposity, cardiorespiratory fitness and dietary intake among Azorean adolescents

Open Access•Carla Moreira, Santos Rute et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2012

Insulin resistance is an important compo nent in the development of metabolic syndrome and lifestyle-related diseases. • Metabolic risk factors, physical activity and physical fitness in azorean adolescents

Open Access•Carla Moreira, Rute Santos et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Daily step counts and PF levels were negatively associated with having one or more MRF among Azorean adolescents. Our findings emphasize the importance of promoting and increasing regular PA and PF to reduce the public health burden of chronic diseases associated with a sedentary lifestyle

  • Influence of cardiorespiratory fitness and parental lifestyle on adolescents' abdominal obesity

Open Access•Susana Maria Coelho Guimarães Vales, S Vale et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2011
